1. Aiway Mucins: experimental models for studies of secretions
Abstract : Mucins are essential components of the mucosal barrier. The complexity of the airway mucosal barrier is reflected in the lack of specific treatments to block mucin hypersecretion associated with several respiratory diseases such as chronic bronchitis, asthma and cystic fibrosis. 2. Antibody-based Profiling of Expression Patterns using Cell and Tissue Microarrays
Abstract : In this thesis, methods to study gene and protein expression in cells and tissues were developed and utilized in combination with protein-specific antibodies, with the overall objective to attain greater understanding of protein function. To analyze protein expression in in vitro cultured cell lines, a cell microarray (CMA) was developed, facilitating antibody-based protein profiling of cell lines using immunohistochemistry (IHC). 3. Studies of sulfatide expression in relation to beta cell function
Abstract : Previous studies have shown that the glycosphingolipid sulfatide (3´-sulfogalactosyl-ceramide) is present and functionally involved in pancreatic beta cells. In these cells, sulfatide is synthesised as two major isoforms, C16:0 and C24:0 sulfatide, with different length of the fatty acid chain of the ceramide moiety. READ MORE

4. Steroidogenesis studied in a human adrenocortical cell line : effects of single chemicals and mixtures
Abstract : Steroidogenesis may be a target for endocrine disrupting chemicals; unfortunately data of such effects is limited. The aim of this thesis was to study effects on steroidogenesis of single chemicals and mixtures in the human adrenocarcinoma cell line H295R. Screening for effects on steroid secretion was performed by ELISA. READ MORE

5. Novel treatments of glioblastoma in experimental models
Abstract : One of the major problems with malignant brain tumours, such as glioblastoma multiforme, is that despite being able to remove the major bulk of the tumour through surgery and treating the patients with chemotherapy and radiotherapy, we know that tumour cells have already spread throughout the brain. Furthermore, we now know that the glioblastoma cells effectively suppress the patients’ own anti-tumour response. READ MORE
