  1. 1. The mechanism of integrin inactivation and cell signalling induced by c-erbB2, an oncogenic growth factor receptor

    Author : Shahram Hedjazifar; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; c-erbB2; integrin á2â1; cell-matrix; integrin conformation; PKB; ERK; Rho; ILK; Nck-2;

    Abstract : Overexpression of the oncogenic growth factor receptor, c-erbB2, is linked with poor prognosis in breast carcinomas and is used as a target for therapeutic strategies. To elucidate the mechanism underlying the tumorigenic action of an elevated c-erbB2 level, leading to homodimerization and activation, we have used an inducible system where a hybrid receptor consisting of the cytoplasmic and transmembrane domains of c-erbB2 fused to the extracellular domain of the trkA NGF receptor has been stably transfected into an immortalized mammary epithelial cell line. 2. 2. Cell-matrix interactions in neuronal regeneration : focus on integrins and laminins

    Author : Stefan Plantman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The central and peripheral nervous system (CNS and PNS, respectively) differ in their ability to regenerate after injury. This difference has been attributed both to intrinsic differences in the properties of the neurons and to the extracellular environment. READ MORE

  3. 3. Laminin G Domains, their Receptors, and Activation of Intracellular Pathways

    Author : Hao Yu; Klinisk minnesforskning; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biomedicinska vetenskaper allmänt ; General biomedical sciences; cell-matrix interaction; signaling; receptor; Basement membrane; laminin;

    Abstract : Basement membranes are sheet like structures underlying epithelial, endothelial, adipocytes, muscle and peripheral nerve cells. Laminins are an important family of basement membrane proteins implicated in various biological functions through their interactions with cell surface receptors. Laminins are trimers composed of a, b and g chains. READ MORE

  4. 4. Interactions between the stroma and thyroid epithelial cells of normal and malignant origin

    Author : Thérèse Dahlman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medical sciences; Thyroid gland; carcinoma; collagen type I; EGF; TGF-b1; interaction; integrins; E-cadherin; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medicine; medicin;

    Abstract : Endocrine and locally produced factors as well as interactions between epithelial cells and the stroma important in the control of growth and function of the thyroid gland. In this study, the effects of, and mechanism(s) for, such cross-talk under some normal and pathological conditions were investigated. READ MORE

  5. 5. Matrix resorption in endochondral bone growth : ultrastructural studies, with special attention to the chondroclast

    Author : Joakim Nordahl; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : chondroclast; osteoclast; cartilage resorption; TRAP; cathepsin K; fibronectin; bone sialoprotein; osteopontin;

    Abstract : A substantial amount of the calcified cartilage in the distal parts of the epiphyseal plate is resorbed during endochondral growth of long bones. However, the mechanisms involved in this process are still largely unknown. On the other hand, bone-resorption in the lower metaphysis has been thoroughly investigated. READ MORE
