  1. 1. Structural changes during cellulose composite processing

    Author : Helena Halonen; Monica Ek; Tommy Iversen; Derek D. Gray; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; CP MAS 13C NMR; cellulose; fibril aggregation; biocomposite; compression moulding; supramolecular structure;

    Abstract : Two approaches for creating a new all-cellulose composite material have been studied: the biosynthesis of compartmentalised bacterial cellulose fibril aggregates and the compression moulding of commercial chemical wood pulps processed with only water. The objective was to study the structural changes during processing and the complexity of relating the mechanical properties of the final biocomposites to the nanoscale structure was highlighted. 2. 2. Cellulose nanofibril materials with controlled structure : the influence of colloidal interactions

    Author : Andreas Fall; Lars Wågberg; Anna Finne Wistrand; Paul Gatenholm; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Colloidal stability; cellulose nanofibrils; nanofibers; nanostructured materials; biocomposite; DLVO; gel;

    Abstract : Nanoparticles are very interesting components. Due to their very large specific surface area they possess properties in between molecules and macroscopic materials. In addition, a material built up of hierarchically assembled nanoparticles could obtain unique properties, not possessed by the nanoparticles themself. READ MORE

  3. 3. Ring-opening polymerization from cellulose for biocomposite applications

    Author : Hanna Lönnberg; Anders Hult; David Plackett; KTH; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cellulose; ring-opening polymerization; polycaprolactone; grafting from; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : There is an emerging interest in the development of sustainable materials with high performance. Cellulose is promising in this regard as it is a renewablere source with high specific properties, which can be utilized as strong reinforcements in novel biocomposites. READ MORE
