  1. 1. Brain glycine receptors as a common target for alcohol and the relapse-preventing drug acamprosate - a preclinical study

    Author : Pei Pei Chau; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Alcoholism; Acamprosate; Glycine receptor; Preclinical study; Dopamine; Ethanol;

    Abstract : Alcohol abuse and dependence make up the most prevalent categories of substance use disorders in the world. Converging evidence from the current research group has identified two receptor populations, the glycine (GlyRs) and nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) in the mesolimbic dopamine system, as two potentially important targets for the development of new medication to treat alcohol dependence. 2. 2. Regulation of growth plate and articular chondrocyte differentiation : implications for longitudinal bone growth and articular cartilage formation

    Author : Michael Chau; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Overall height and body proportions in humans are determined primarily by bone growth. Linear bone growth occurs at the growth plate, a thin layer of cartilage at the ends of long bones between the epiphysis and metaphysis. READ MORE

  3. 3. Skeletal muscle metabolic flexibility : the roles of AMP-activated protein kinase and calcineurin

    Author : Yun Chau Long; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Skeletal muscle; metabolism; glucose; lipid; gene expression; AMP-activated protein kinase; calcineurin; exercise;

    Abstract : Skeletal muscle fibers differ considerably in their metabolic and physiological properties. The metabolic properties of skeletal muscle display a high degree of flexibility which adapts to various physiological demands by shifting energy substrate metabolism. READ MORE

  4. 4. Evaluation of locally available feed resources for striped catfish (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus)

    Author : Chau Thi Da; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This thesis investigated and compared inputs and outputs, economic factors and current feed use in small-scale farming systems producing striped catfish (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus) in the Mekong Delta. The nutrient content of locally available natural feed resources for striped catfish was determined and growth performance, feed utilisation and body indices were analysed in pond-cultured striped catfish fed diets where fish meal protein was replaced with protein from local feed resources. 5. 5. The relationship between fly ash chemistry and the thermal formation of polychlorinated pollutants during waste incineration

    Author : Duong Ngoc Chau Phan; Stellan Marklund; Bogdan Dlugogorski; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Incinerations; dioxins; PCDD Fs; PCBs; PCNs; flue gas; fly ash; sampling; particle characterization; XPS; XRD; SEM EDX; formation; chlorination; PCA; OPLS; OPLS-DA;

    Abstract : The thermal formation of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs), dibenzofurans (PCDFs), biphenyls (PCBs), and naphthalenes (PCNs) is a major problem in waste incineration. Ideally, rather than relying on air cleaning systems and treatment techniques, their formation should be minimized or, if possible eliminated. READ MORE
