11. Quantum Devices from the Assembly of Zero- and One-Dimensional Building Blocks
Abstract : This thesis describes novel methods for the fabrication of nanometer-scale electronic devices, such as single-electron transistors and resonant tunneling diodes, from wire- and dot-shaped building blocks. The first part of the thesis describes the manipulation of metal nanoparticles and carbon nanotubes using an atomic force microscope. READ MORE

12. Growth, characterization and processing of III-nitride semiconductors
Abstract : The III-nitride semiconductor materials have wide direct bandgap ranging from 6.2 eV (AlN); through 3.4 eV (GaN) to 0.65 eV (InN). READ MORE

13. Dopant diffusion in Si and SiGe
Abstract : Dopant diffusion in semiconductors is an interestingphenomenon from both technological and scientific points ofview. Firstly, dopant diffusion is taking place during most ofthe steps in electronic device fabrication and, secondly, diffusion is related to fundamental properties of thesemiconductor, often controlled by intrinsic point defects:self-interstitials and vacancies. 14. Adventures of III-V Semiconductor Surfaces
Abstract : Tailoring the surface composition and morphology of materials to enable new electronic devices is important for a wide range of applications such as quantum computing or spintronics. A fundamental understanding of the changes induced in the surface during different process steps can help to establish new synthesis routes as well as devices. READ MORE

15. Transport Studies of Local-Gate Defined Quantum Dots in Nanowires
Abstract : This thesis focuses on electrical transport in semiconductor InAs nanowires grown by chemical beam epitaxy. Initially, transport length scales of homogeneous InAs n-type nanowires are characterized by low-temperature magnetoconductance measurements. The measurements show phase-coherent conductivity corrections. READ MORE
