  1. 1. Asexual embryogenesis in plants

    Author : Boel Mårtensson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Systematic botany; two-phase partitioning; somatic embryogenesis; pollen embryogenesis; plasma membrane; peroxidase; Daucus carota isoperoxidase; Nicotiana tabacum; Ca2 transport; cell shape; calmodulin; taxonomy; morphology; phytogeography; chemotaxonomy. Physiology of nonvascular plants; Systematisk botanik; taxonomi; morfologi; kemotaxonomi. Växters fysiologi inte kärlväxter .;

    Abstract : The capacity of somatic cells and pollen grains or microspores to undergo embryogenesis is an important property used in improvement and regeneration of plants. Furthermore, somatic embryogenesis as well as pollen embryogenesis show many similarities with zygotic embryogenesis and are, thus, good model systems. READ MORE

  2. 2. Diversity and phylogeography in Alisma (Alismataceae), with emphasis on Northern European taxa

    Author : Anders Jacobson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; morphology; phytogeography; chemotaxonomy. Physiology of nonvascular plants; taxonomy; Systematic botany; Baltic Sea; Europe; refugia; post-glacial migration; phylogeography; marsh plants; genetic variation; aquatic plants; Alisma; Systematisk botanik; taxonomi; morfologi; kemotaxonomi. Växters fysiologi inte kärlväxter .;

    Abstract : In the present thesis the phylogeny and patterns of genetic diversity of the plant genus Alisma (Alismataceae) were investigated by means of genetic markers (RAPDs, allozymes, and ITS and trnL sequences). Additionally, morphological studies were carried out in paper IV. READ MORE

  3. 3. Anatomy and taxonomy of cetrarioid lichens

    Author : Arne Thell; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; taxonomi; chemotaxonomy. Physiology of nonvascular plants; phytogeography; morphology; taxonomy; Systematic botany; pycnoconidia; ascus structures; anatomy; Systematisk botanik; cetrarioid lichens; Ascomycotina; Parmeliaceae; morfologi; kemotaxonomi. Växters fysiologi inte kärlväxter .;

    Abstract : The anatomy of the cetrarioid lichens (Parmeliaceae) has been studied, and the taxonomy revised. Special attention has been paid to reproductive structures, in particular the asci and pycnoconidia. Two types of asci are recognized. The Cetraria type is narrowly clavate, bears an amyloid ring structure in the tholus, and has a small axial body. READ MORE

  4. 4. Respiratory NAD(P)H dehydrogenases of plants - Gene identity and expression in response to light and cold

    Author : Staffan Svensson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; morfologi; phytogeography; chemotaxonomy. Physiology of nonvascular plants; Systematisk botanik; taxonomi; morphology; taxonomy; Systematic botany; Växtgenetik; Plant genetics; plant mitochondria; NADH dehydrogenases; light dependence; mRNA quantification; leaf respiration; cold treatment; kemotaxonomi. Växters fysiologi inte kärlväxter .;

    Abstract : The respiratory chain of plants contains class 2 NAD(P)H dehydrogenases, not present in animals. The functional roles of these enzymes have been elusive for a long time. Two cDNAs, homologous to class 2 NADH dehydrogenase genes of yeast and E. coli, were isolated from potato leaves. READ MORE

  5. 5. Patterns of geographic variation in Silene section Elisanthe (Caryophyllaceae): hybridization and migrational history

    Author : Louise Hathaway; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; chemotaxonomy. Physiology of nonvascular plants; phytogeography; morphology; outbreeding depression; Systematic botany; taxonomy; ITS; fitnes; inbreeding depression; AFLP; PCR-RFLP; cpDNA; gene flow; postglacial migration; geographic variation; hybridization; Silene latifolia; Silene section Elisanthe; Silene dioica; Systematisk botanik; taxonomi; morfologi; kemotaxonomi. Växters fysiologi inte kärlväxter .;

    Abstract : Large-scale patterns of genetic variation in chloroplast (cp) and nuclear DNA in the widespread European herb species Silene latifolia and S. dioica were investigated using cpPCR-RFLPs, non-coding cpDNA sequences, AFLPs and sequences of the internal transcribed spacers (ITS) of nuclear ribosomal DNA (rDNA).
