  1. 1. Chromatin Dynamics in the Fission Yeast, Schizosaccharomyces pombe

    Author : Carolina Kristell; Pernilla Bjerling; Per Sunnerhagen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chromatin; Gene induction; Silencing; Subnuclear localization; Stress; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; Molekylär genetik; Molecular Genetics;

    Abstract : In the eukaryotic cell nucleus, spatial organization and dynamics of the genome is important in the regulation of gene expression. This thesis describes the use of the fission yeast, Schizosaccharomyces pombe, to study chromatin regulation and dynamics. We used nitrogen starvation to induce transcription of genes in fission yeast cells. READ MORE

  2. 2. Mechanisms of Transgene Silencing in Neural Cells -Implications for Ex Vivo Gene Therapy to the Brain

    Author : Nina Rosenqvist; Neurobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neurophysiology; Neurologi; Neurology; neuropsychology; ChIP; rat; transgene; insulator; differentiation; GFP; lentivirus; DNA methylation; histone deacetylation; chromatin; expression; silencing; stem cell; progenitor; gene therapy; neurofysiologi; neuropsykologi; CNS; transplantation;

    Abstract : The use of genetically modifi ed neural stem and progenitor cells could possibly be a future strategy for repairing a brain suffering from neurodegeneration. However, so far it has proven diffi cult to maintain sufficient levels of a transferred gene in suitable cell types, after transplantation. READ MORE

  3. 3. The interplay of transcription and chromatin regulation during embryonic development

    Author : George Hunt; Mattias Mannervik; Eileen Furlong; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; transcription; chromatin; chromatin-modifiers; p300 CBP; Polycomb repression; promoter proximal Pol II pausing; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Abstract : A fascinating aspect of multicellular development is the production of diverse cell types from an identical DNA genome, which depends on the ability to express different complements of genes across space and time. This thesis tries to address how the genome, within the chromatin structure that envelops it, is regulated to direct this complex process. READ MORE

  4. 4. Gene regulation by chromatin remodelling complexes : SWI/SNF complex in mRNA processing and B-WICH complex in ribosomal gene expression

    Author : Antoni Gañez Zapater; Ann-Kristin Östlund-Farrants; Christopher W.J. Smith; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Chromatin remodelling; SWI SNF; Brg1; Brm; alternative splicing; cleavage and polyadenylation; B-WICH; WSTF; ribosomal genes; Cell Biology; cellbiologi;

    Abstract : The aim of this project is to investigate the roles of chromatin remodelling complexes in gene regulation. It is focused on two groups of chromatin complexes: the mammalian BRG1 and BRM SWI/SNF complexes and the ISWI-containing B-WICH complex.Study 1 investigates the role of SWI/SNF complexes in alternative splicing. 5. 5. The Functional Significance and Chromatin Organisation of the Imprinting Control Regions of the H19 and Kcnq1 Genes

    Author : Meena Kanduri; Rolf Ohlsson; Karl Ekwall; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular genetics; DNA methylation; Imprinting control region; Chromatin; Insulator; Nucleosome positioning; Genetik; Genetics; Genetik;

    Abstract : Genomic imprinting is a phenomenon through which a subset of genes are epigenetically marked during gemtogenisis. This mark is maintained in the soma to often manifest parent of origin-specific monoalleleic expresson patterns. READ MORE
