  1. 1. Mutation and Diversity in Avian Sex Chromosomes

    Author : Hannah Sundström; Hans Ellegren; David W. Burt; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; mutation rate; diversity; sex chromosomes; indels; male bias; selective sweep; effective population size; birds; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik;

    Abstract : Sex chromosomes are useful for the study of how factors such as mutation, selection, recombination and effective population size affect diversity and divergence.A comparison of gametologous introns in seven different bird species revealed a complete lack of diversity on the female-specific W chromosome. 2. 2. Molecular architecture of meiotic chromosomes

    Author : Ivana Novak; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Meiosis; Chromosome architecture; Synaptonemal complex; Cohesin complex;

    Abstract : Faithful chromosome segregation at each cell division is essential as the formation of cells with an abnormal number of chromosomes (aneuploid cells) can result in infertility, developmental defects or cancer. Aneuploidy occurs in approximately 20% of all conceptions, causing infertility and embryo death. READ MORE

  3. 3. Cytogenetic studies of primary and metastatic breast cancer

    Author : Adewale Adeyinka; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; histokemi; cytokemi; Histologi; tissue culture; cytochemistry; histochemistry; Histology; metastases; prognosis; male breast cancer; breast cancer; trisomy 12; Cytogenetics; chromosomes; vävnadskultur; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik;

    Abstract : A series of primary and metastatic breast carcinomas obtained from female and male patients were cytogenetically analysed. Trisomy 12 was identified as a recurrent and sometimes early event in breast carcinogenesis. READ MORE

  4. 4. Cytogenetic abnormalities in Acute Myeloid Leukemia in Sweden. A population based study

    Author : Vladimir Lazarevic; Stamcellscentrum (SCC); []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; AML; karyotype; population-based studies; prognosis; chromosomes; hyperdiploidy;

    Abstract : The impact of cytogenetic findings in AML was analyzed in the large population-based Swedish AML registry. Karyotypic patterns differed by age: t(8;21), inv(16) and t(11q23) were more common in younger patients, whereas loss of 5q, 7q and 17p, monosomal karyotype (MK) and complex karyotype (CK) were more common in older patients. 5. 5. Structural chromosomal aberrations and neuropsychiatric disorders

    Author : Tonnie Johannesson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Autism spectrum disorders; chromosomes; FISH; balanced; translocations;

    Abstract : Infantile autism (IA) is a severe neurodevelopment disorder with a complex genetic predisposition. The underlying causes of autism are still not understood. READ MORE
