1. Population ecology of perch (Perca fluviatilis) in boreal lakes
Abstract : I studied the effects of temperature, pH, competition and predation on Eurasian perch (Perca fluviatilis) in 30 lakes in Norway during 1981-2001. The study lakes were situated in two different areas in southern Norway; four lakes in Aust-Agder county in southernmost Norway were explored during 1981-1984 and 26 lakes in Hedmark county in south-eastern Norway were investigated during 1992-2001. 2. Pre-school Teachers’ Perceived Control and Behaviour Problems in Children
Abstract : In this thesis, pre-school teachers’ perceived control, is examined in relation to problem behaviours of children and the actions of teachers in the classroom. In addition, other factors that are thought to relate to teachers’ perceived control were studied. READ MORE

3. Machine Learning Methods Using Class-specific Subspace Kernel Representations for Large-Scale Applications
Abstract : Kernel techniques became popular due to and along with the rising success of Support Vector Machines (SVM). During the last two decades, the kernel idea itself has been extracted from SVM and is now widely studied as an independent subject. READ MORE

4. Estimating particle size distributions based on machine vision
Abstract : This thesis contributes to the field of machine vision and the theory of the sampling of particulate material on conveyor belts. The objective is to address sources of error relevant to surface-analysis techniques when estimating the sieve-size distribution of particulate material using machine vision. READ MORE

5. NK cell inhibitory receptor interactions with MHC class I molecules
Abstract : Natural killer (NK) cells represent the third population of lymphocytes in size after B- and T-cells. NK mediated killing of target cells is strongly influenced by MHC class I molecules expressed on target cells. In contrast to T-cells, NK cells can be inhibited by MHC class I molecules through the action of specific inhibitory NK cell receptors. READ MORE
