1. Climate, Conflict and Coping Capacity : The Impact of Climate Variability on Organized Violence
Abstract : Understanding the conflict potential of climate variability is critical for assessing and dealing with the societal implications of climate change. Yet, it remains poorly understood under what circumstances – and how – extreme weather events and variation in precipitation patterns affect organized violence. READ MORE

2. Impact of Climate Change on Extreme Events: Insights from Asia and Scandinavia
Abstract : As climate has warmed significantly over past decades, numerous studies have confirmed a pattern of more frequent and more intense hydro-climate events across the globe, such as floods, heatwaves, and droughts. Analyzing the variability of climate events with reliable historical data records is one of the most direct approaches for understanding its patterns of change. READ MORE

3. Understanding West African Monsoon Variability : Insights from Paleoclimate Modelling of Past Warm Climates
Abstract : The Sahel, a water-vulnerable region in West Africa, relies heavily on rainfed agriculture. The region experienced pronounced droughts during the 20th Century, emphasising the socio-economic importance of understanding the drivers of the rainfall variability. READ MORE

4. Holocene environmental changes and climate variability in the Eastern Mediterranean : Multiproxy sediment records from the Peloponnese peninsula, SW Greece
Abstract : This thesis presents multiproxy reconstructions of the mid to late Holocene climate and environmental changes in the Peloponnese peninsula, SW Greece. The combined dataset consists of diatom, biomarker and X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (XRF) elemental data in radiocarbon-dated sediment cores taken from the Agios Floros fen and the Gialova Lagoon in SW Peloponnese and the Ancient Lake Lerna in NE Peloponnese. 5. Water resources in Iceland - Impacts of climate variability and climate change
Abstract : Hydropower is the main source of electricity production in Iceland. In 2005, 80.8% of all electricity was generated by hydropower (7015 GWh). Hydropower production is affected both by variations and changes in discharge. READ MORE
