    Abstract : Clonal structure and reproductive biology in the gynodioecious herb Glechoma hederacea L. Lamiaceae The frequencies of females, hermaphrodites and partially male-sterile (PMS) genets of Glechoma hederacea were estimated in natural populations in S Sweden. The frequency of females and PMS genets in natural populations varied from 0 to 100%. READ MORE

  2. 22. Approaches to differential gene expression analysis in atherosclerosis

    Author : Tove Andersson; KTH; []
    Keywords : representational difference analysis; gene expression profiling; microarray analysis; atherosclerosis; foam cell formation;

    Abstract : Today’s rapid development of powerful tools for geneexpression analysis provides unprecedented resources forelucidating complex molecular events.The objective of this workhas been to apply, combine andevaluate tools for analysis of differential gene expressionusing atherosclerosis as a model system. 3. 23. Characterization of the Intestinal Microbiota by DNA-Based Methods

    Author : Mei Wang; Livsmedelsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi; bacteriology; virology; Microbiology; Ulcerative colitis; T-RFLP; 16S rRNA; Brachyspira; Microbiota; Bacterial diversity; Bacterial translocation; Translocating bacteria;

    Abstract : The intestinal flora and the bacteria found in the extraintestinal sites were studied in liver injury rats, with or without Lactobacillus plantarum 299v pre-treatment. The dominating intestinal flora and translocating bacteria were typed by RAPD and identified by 16S rDNA sequencing. READ MORE

  4. 24. Spatiotemporal patterns of genetic variation for growth and fertility in Scots pine

    Author : Johan Kroon; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Genetic testing plays an important role in tree breeding. Understanding basic genetic parameters for growth and fertility is a prerequisite for developing a successful breeding strategy to balance between short- and long-term gains. It is both impractical and inefficient to wait until trials are several decades old to make selection decisions. READ MORE

  5. 25. Glutathione transferases : molecular cloning, site-directed mutagenesis and structure-function studies

    Author : Gun Stenberg; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Three distinct glutathione transferases (GST) cDNA clones were obtained by screening of tumour cell line cDNA libraries. The cDNA clones were expressed in Escherichia coli and the enzymes characterized. Rat GST 8-8 is the only member in the multifunctional GST family for which a specific cellular function has been proposed. READ MORE
