  2. 2. Leaching of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons Using a Column Method

    Author : Anja Enell; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Kemiteknik och kemisk teknologi; Naturvetenskap; Chemical technology and engineering; Natural science; Miljöstudier; Environmental studies; coal tar; PAHs; desorption; soil; combustion residues; remediation; availability;

    Abstract : Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are a group of organic pollutants of great environmental concern, due to their toxicity, carcinogenicity and long persistence in the environment. To determine the potential risk associated with PAHs released from contaminated soil or waste materials, knowledge is required on the leachable concentrations of PAHs and the amounts available for release. 3. 3. Catalytic tar cleaning of biomass-derived gas with simultaneous catalyst regeneration

    Author : Fredrik Lind; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Tar cleaning; Catalytic gas cleaning; Biomass gasification;

    Abstract : Tar cleaning of raw gas from biomass gasification is a necessary operation before the gas can be used as feedstock for synthetic fuels. The technology for gas cleaning that is commercially available today (scrubber systems), is associated with problems like heat penalties and loss of the chemically stored energy within the tars. Abstract : How did fossil-fuelled technology find its way to Egypt on its way to global dominance? This thesis presents a socioecological history of energy technologies in agrarian production in pre-colonial Egypt (1820s – 76). It situates them in the nineteenth century, understood as the beginning of the epoch of the Capitalocene; and in Egypt’s case, this is simultaneously part of the rise of Britain’s fossil empire.
