  2. 2. Multicomponent diffusional reactions in tool steels : Experiment and Theory

    Author : Greta Lindwall; Malin Selleby; Karin Frisk; John Ågren; Carelyn Campbell; KTH; []
    Keywords : hot-work tool steel; precipitation hardening; DICTRA; coarsening; mobilities; CALPHAD; cobalt; PM tool stees; nitrogen; compound materials;

    Abstract : Many phenomena determining the microstructure of a tool steel and consequently the properties of the material, are governed by multicomponent diffusion. The diffusion driven reactions that take place during, for example, tempering of a hot-work tool steel or when the microstructure develops during hot isostatic pressing of cold-work tool steel, are dependent on the types and amounts of alloying elements. 3. 3. Aspects of Structural Evolution in Cemented Carbide – Carbide Size, Shape and Stability

    Author : Ida Borgh; Joakim Odqvist; Peter Hedström; Annika Borgenstam; Jean-Michel Missiaen; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Cemented carbide; Ti; Zr C; Coarsening; Phase separation; C-activity; initial WC powder size; electron backscattered diffraction; microscopy; X-ray diffraction;

    Abstract : Cemented carbide is a composite material used in applications like cutting tools and rock drilling inserts. The material commonly consists of WC grains embedded in a Co-rich binder phase and the material properties strongly depend on the WC grain size. READ MORE

  4. 4. Aspects of microstructural evolution in chromium steels in high temperature applications

    Author : Åsa Gustafson; KTH; []
    Keywords : Cr-steels; nucleation; coarsening; model; DICTRA; precipitates; carbides; carbo-nitrides; MX; VN; M23C6; TiC; TEM; EFTEM; Curie-temperature;

    Abstract : In this thesis 9-12 % Cr steels, used for high-temperaturecomponents in fossil-fired power plants are considered. Thecreep strength of thees steels depend on their microstructurethat consists of a matrix of tempered lath martensite withdensely distributed precipitates. READ MORE

  5. 5. The role of primary austenite morphology in cast iron

    Author : Juan Carlos Hernando; Attila Diószegi; Arne Dahle; Jessica Elfsberg; Roberto Boeri; Jönköping University; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Solidification; Cast Iron; Primary Austenite; Microstructure Evolution; Coarsening; LGI; CGI; SGI; UTS; stelning; gjutjärn; primär austenit; mikrostrukturbildning; förgrovning; LGI; CGI; SGI; UTS;

    Abstract : Automotive industry products portfolio includes a wide variety of complex-shaped cast iron products, such as truck engine components. Urged by strict environmental regulations on emissions, these components constantly need to combine higher demands on performance with lighter designs. READ MORE
