  1. 1. Hot forming tribology : galling of tools and associated problems

    Author : Leonardo Pelcastre; Ewald Badisch; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Maskinelement; Machine Elements; Centrumbildning - Centrum för högpresterande stål CHS ; Centre - Centre for High Performance Steel CHS ;

    Abstract : In recent years, the use of ultra high-strength steels (UHSS) as structural reinforcements and in energy-absorbing systems in automobiles has increased rapidly; mainly in view of their favourable strength to weight ratios. However, due to their high strength, the formability of UHSS is poor, thus complex-shaped UHSS components are invariably produced through hot-metal forming processes. READ MORE

  2. 2. Microstructure and plastic deformation of textured CVD alumina coatings

    Author : Siamak Shoja; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; α-Al2O3; Texture; Coatings; TKD; Plastic deformation; Deformation mechanisms; Electron microscopy; CVD;

    Abstract : It is known that the wear performance of α-alumina coatings produced by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) is significantly influenced by the type and degree of texture. However, the main reasons behind this behavior are not fully understood. This thesis contains studies of two related topics for increasing the understanding of α-alumina coatings. READ MORE

  3. 3. Self-Lubricating Laser Claddings in the Context of Hot Metal Forming

    Author : Hector Torres; Braham Prakash; Manuel Rodriquez Ripoll; Paul Mayrhofer; Tomasz Liskiewicz; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Tribology; High Temperature; Laser Claddings; Self-Lubricating; Hot Stamping; Machine Elements; Maskinelement;

    Abstract : Laser cladding is a coating technique with significant advantages like the high quality of the resulting layers, their excellent metallurgical bonding to the substrate or the possibility to repair/rework high-value mechanical components. In recent years, the incorporation of solid lubricants to the base powder in order to produce self-lubricating claddings has been shown in the literature to be possible, with several of the described coatings being able to operate at high temperatures with low friction and wear. 4. 4. Formation and Function of Low-Friction Tribofilms

    Author : Harald Skiöld Nyberg; Staffan Jacobson; Allan Matthews; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; tribology; tribofilm; PVD; coating; low-friction; tungsten disulphide; transition metal dichalcogenide; tribochemistry; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot tribomaterial; Engineering Science with specialization in Tribo Materials;

    Abstract : The use of low-friction coatings on machine elements is steadily increasing, and they are expected to play an important role in the reduction of fuel consumption of future motorized vehicles. Many low-friction coatings function by transformation of the outermost coating layer into tribofilms, which then cover the coating surface and its counter surface. READ MORE

  5. 5. Functional properties of silicon nitride based materials for joint applications

    Author : Luimar N. Corrêa Filho; Cecilia Persson; Julia Shelton; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Silicon nitride; Coatings; Wear; Joint replacements; HiPIMS; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot materialvetenskap; Engineering Science with specialization in Materials Science;

    Abstract : Total hip and total knee replacements are generally successful procedures for patients suffering with pain due to bone fracture or diseases affecting the joints. However, the materials that are commonly used still have limitations. In particular, corrosion products and wear debris may give rise to negative body reactions. READ MORE
