  1. 1. Genetic Variability in Human Bone Phenotypes : The Vitamin D Receptor Gene and the Estrogen Receptor-α Cofactor RIZ Gene

    Author : Elin Grundberg; Andreas Kindmark; Östen Ljunggren; Helena Brändström; André G. Uitterlinden; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medicine; Bone mineral density; candidate gene approach; polymorphism; the vitamin D receptor; the estrogen receptor α; RIZ1; cofactor; allelic imbalance; Medicin;

    Abstract : Important candidate genes to human bone phenotypes are those involved in the regulation of hormonal action, such as the vitamin D receptor (VDR) and the estrogen receptor-α (ERα) genes and their cofactors. RIZ1 is a specific ERα cofactor proved to strongly enhance the function of the ERα. READ MORE

  2. 2. Assembly and Function of Nitric Oxide Reductase from Paracoccus denitrificans

    Author : Maximilian Kahle; Pia Ädelroth; Hans-Georg Koch; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; non-heme iron; cofactor; heme-copper oxidase; AAA ; cNOR; chaperone; metal ion insertion; MoxR; nor accessory genes; FeB; liposomes; membrane mimetics; nanodiscs; reconstitution; enzymatic mechanism; NO reduction; O2 reduction; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Abstract : Bacterial denitrification is a part of the global nitrogen cycle and comprises the stepwise reduction of nitrate to molecular nitrogen, which is released to the atmosphere. Cytochrome c-dependent nitric oxide reductase (cNOR) from Paracoccus (P.) denitrificans catalyzes the reduction of nitric oxide to nitrous oxide and water. READ MORE

  3. 3. Genetic Traits Beneficial for Xylose Utilization by Recombinant Saccharomyces cerevisiae

    Author : Oskar Bengtsson; Teknisk mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Saccharomyces cerevisiae; metabolic engineering; fermentation; xylose; ethanol; promoter; xylose reductase; cofactor; validation; transcriptome;

    Abstract : Saccharomyces cerevisiae ferments hexoses in lignocellulosic hydrolysates under anaerobic conditions with high rates and ethanol yields. However, S. cerevisiae is naturally unable to utilize the pentose fraction of the hydrolysates. Xylose is the most abundant pentose sugar, and although recombinant S. READ MORE

  4. 4. Myc oncoprotein cofactor interactions : function, regulation and targeting

    Author : Karin Ridderstråle; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The members of the Myc-family of proto-oncoproteins c-Myc, N-Myc and L-Myc are transcription factors exerting their effect via protein-protein interactions. The Myc proteins are basic-helix-loop-helix-leucine-zipper (bHLHzip) transcription factors, which after heterodimerization with their obligatory partner Max, bind to E-boxes in target gene promoters and regulate the expression of 10-15% of all genes by the recruitment of different cofactors. 5. 5. Newton systems of cofactor type in Euclidean and Riemannian spaces

    Author : Hans Lundmark; Franco Magri; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : We study second order ordinary differential equations of Newton type with integrals of motion that depend quadratically on the velocity. In particular, we introduce the class of cofactor pair systems, which admit two quadratic integrals of motion of a special form. READ MORE
