  1. 1. Platelet Adhesion to Proteins in Microplates : Applications in Experimental and Clinical Research

    Author : Andreas Eriksson; Per Whiss; Håkan Wallén; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; platelets; platelet adhesion; platelet assay; synergistic activation; thrombosis; anti-platelet treatment; Pharmacology; Farmakologi;

    Abstract : Platelets are crucial for prevention of blood loss after vessel injury. Platelet adhesion to disrupted vessel walls is mediated by receptors such as the GPIb-IX-V complex that binds von Willebrand factor and the collagen-binding integrin α2β1. READ MORE

  2. 2. Studies on chondrocyte integrins and mechanical signaling

    Author : Karin Holmvall; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; teratology; Development biology; collagen; mechnaical stimulation; cartilage; development; chondrocyte; integrin; ontogeny; embryology human ; Utvecklingsbiologi; teratologi; embryologi människa ;

    Abstract : Integrins are a family of cell surface receptors known to bind matrix proteins and to mediate signals such as mechanical signals between the cell and the surrounding matrix. We have studied integrins that are expressed by chondrocytes, with specific focus on the integrins that interact with the cartilage matrix protein collagen type II. READ MORE

  3. 3. Functional Studies of Collagen-Binding Integrins α2β1 and α11β1 : Interplay between Integrins and Platelet-Derived Growth Factor Receptors

    Author : Gunilla Grundström; Kristofer Rubin; Karl-Eric Magnusson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : Integrins are heterodimeric cell surface receptors, composed of an α- and a β-subunit, which mediate cell-extracellular matrix (ECM) interactions. Integrins mediate intracellular signals in response to extracellular stimuli, and cooperate with growth factor and other cytokine receptors. READ MORE

  4. 4. Studies on chondroadherin-an extracellular matrix leucine-rich repeat protein

    Author : Christina Wenglén; Reumatologi och molekylär skelettbiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Klinisk biologi; Clinical biology; COMP; SLRP; ECM; collagen; cartilage; chondroadherin;

    Abstract : This thesis describes chondroadherin, one of the leucine-rich repeat proteins in the extracellular matrix (ECM) of cartilage. Chondroadherin defines a subgroup of its own by not having an N-terminal extension, having a different cysteine pattern and by being devoid of carbohydrate substitutions. READ MORE

  5. 5. Systemic sclerosis : vascular, pulmonary and immunological aspects

    Author : Grethe Neumann Andersen; Solbritt Rantapää Dahlqvist; Lucia Mincheva-Nilsson; Sören Jacobsen; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Systemic sclerosis; interstitial lung disease; MMP-9; Th1 Th2; transcription factors; NO; iNOS; E-selectin; endothelium-dependent dilation; endothelium-independent dilation.; Rheumatology; Reumatologi;

    Abstract : In systemic sclerosis (SSc), interstitial lung disease (ILD) and engagement of the vascular system lead to increased morbidity and mortality. The aim of this thesis was to elucidate, in a consecutively included cohort of SSc (limited and diffuse) patients (n = 33), the T cell cytokine profile driving the disease in ILD and to explore the role of matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP-9) and its inhibitor: tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase 1 (TIMP-1) in the extracellular matrix (ECM) degrading process leading to fibrous scarring and honey combing.
