  1. 21. Real-Time Algorithms and Intersection Test Methods for Computer Graphics

    Author : Tomas Möller; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; texture; ray tracing; radiosity; color; three-dimensional graphics and realism; virtual reality; algorithms; shadowing; shading;

    Abstract : In real-time computer graphics applications, at least three major forces are in conflict, namely, rendering speed, the level of realism, and interactivity. Therefore this thesis focuses on real-time algorithms that enhance the realism while maintaining high rendering speed, and on fast intersection test methods in order to speed up, for example, collision detection, picking processes and ray tracing. 3. 23. It's All in the Brain : A Theory of the Qualities of Perception

    Author : Jesper Östman; Pär Sundström; Howard Robinson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Philosophy of perception; philosophy of consciousness; hallucination; phenomenal qualities; qualia; sense data; physicalism; Russell; disjunctivism; representationalism; brain theory; color; the brain; Theoretical Philosophy; teoretisk filosofi;

    Abstract : This dissertation concerns the location and nature of phenomenal qualities. Arguably, these qualities naively seem to belong to perceived external objects. However, we also seem to experience phenomenal qualities in hallucinations, and in hallucinations we do not perceive any external objects. READ MORE

  4. 24. Causes and consequences of niche differentiation between color morphs of pygmy grasshoppers

    Author : Einat Karpestam; Anders Forsman; Birgitta Tullberg; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; color polymorphism; visual predators; Tetrix subulata; differential habitat use; niche; thermoregulation; feeding preferences; stable isotopes; Evolutionary Biology; Evolutionsbiologi;

    Abstract : In this thesis, I used the color polymorphic pygmy grasshopper, Tetrix subulata, as a model system in order to investigate the degree of niche differentiation between alternative color morphs that are present within a single population. First, I hypothesized that individuals belonging to different color morphs differ in their innate food preference due to somewhat dissimilar physiology, and in their actual food consumption due in part to differential habitat use. 5. 25. WO3 for reflective displays in color

    Author : Marika Gugole; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; reflective displays; electrochromism; plasmonic metasurfaces; structural colors;

    Abstract : Reflective displays, also known as electronic paper, are very attractive due to their low power consumption and great visibility under bright ambient light conditions. However, reflective displays in color are still limited on the market for two main reasons. READ MORE
