    Abstract : Iconized migrant writers such as Michael Ondaatje, Salman Rushdie and Ben Okri use their fictional worlds to articulate the ways in which existential “nervous conditions,” caused by violent postcolonial history, drive individuals to rework the critical notions of freedom, authenticity and community.     Abstract : The question raised in this thesis is whether there is a common ideology to be found among intentional communities, and if so, what does characterise such an ideology and how does it relate to the traditional –isms? The study takes its theoretical point of departure in a functional concept of ideology, along with six dimensions of social critique: the political, the politico-economic, the politico-sexual, the psychosocial, the religious and spiritual, and the environmental. The findings of this study indicate that intentional communities have a common ideological core. READ MORE

    Abstract : The Kurdish movement in Turkey has since 2005 been trying to establish democratic autonomy, an overarching proposition for the reconstruction of the society from the bottom up, based on ideals of radical democracy, women’s liberation, social ecology, communalism and more. This dissertation takes the current resistance of the Kurdish movement in the context of democratic autonomy as a starting point to deepen the empirical and conceptual insights on resistance as enacted alternatives (‘constructive resistance’); the role of emotions in resistance; and the ways in which our understanding of resistance could inform research methods.
