1. Approaching Mathematical Discourse : Two analytical frameworks and their relation to problem solving interactions
Abstract : The driving force of conducting the two studies presented in this thesis is to examine ways that conceptual understanding and problem solving could be part of mathematics teaching, and through that, part of students' mathematical knowledge. The specific aims of the thesis are: 1) to characterize the classroom discourse of two, apparently similar, problem solving courses in teacher education and 2) to discuss the possibilities of developing two analytical approaches - the communicational approach to cognition and the dialogical approach - used for studying mathematical discourse. 2. Optimization of Joint Cell, Channel and Power Allocation in Wireless Communication Networks
Abstract : In this thesis we formulate joint cell, channel and power allocation problems within wireless communication networks. The objectives are to maximize the user with mini- mum data throughput (Shannon capacity) or to maximize the total system throughput, referred to as the max-min and max-sum problem respectively. 3. Does language matter? : sources of inequivalence and demand of reading ability of mathematics tasks in different languages
Abstract : Practicing mathematics is not possible without the use of language. To communicate mathematical content, not only words in natural language are used but also non-verbal forms of communication such as mathematical symbols, graphs, and diagrams. All these forms of communication can be seen as part of the language used when doing mathematics. READ MORE

4. On Adjacent Channel Interference-Aware Radio Resource Management for Vehicle-to-Vehicle Communication
Abstract : Safety applications play an essential role in supporting traffic safety and efficiency in next generation vehicular networks. Typical safety applications require vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication with high reliability and low latency. READ MORE

5. Intrinsic Formation and Macroscopic Intervention in Multi-agent Systems
Abstract : In this dissertation, we study two problems within the field of the multi-agent systems theory. One is the formation control for multiple reducedattitudes, which are extensively utilized in many pointing applications and under-actuated scenarios for attitude maneuvers. READ MORE
