  1. 1. Composite Bridges : Innovative ways of achieving composite action

    Author : Robert Hällmark; Peter Collin; Ian May; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Composite action; bridges; steel; concrete; shear connectors; prefabrication; coiled spring pins; shear studs; post-installation; design guidance; Structural Engineering; Konstruktionsteknik;

    Abstract : The topic of this thesis is steel-concrete composite bridges and innovative ways of achieving composite action. The typical superstructure consists of three main components: the steel girders, the concrete deck slab and the shear connectors. READ MORE

  2. 2. Fatigue of steel bridges : New structural details and the implementation of high strength steel

    Author : Oskar Skoglund; John Leander; Raid Karoumi; Alain Nussbaumer; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; high strength steel; fatigue; steel bridges; steel and concrete composite bridges; new structural details; linear elastic fracture mechanics; effective notch stress method; nominal stress method; Structural Engineering and Bridges; Bro- och stålbyggnad;

    Abstract : The use of high strength steel has the potential to reduce the amount of steel used in bridge structures and thereby facilitate a more sustainable construction. The amount of steel and what steel grade that can be used in bridge structures and other cyclic loaded structures are often limited by a material degradation process called fatigue. READ MORE

  3. 3. Soil-Steel Composite Bridges : Research advances and application

    Author : Amer Wadi; Raid Karoumi; Lars Pettersson; Ian D. Moore; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Flexible culvert; Soil‒steel composite bridge; Sloping terrain; Swedish design method; Finite element model; Ultimate capacity; Avalanche load; Failure load; Low soil cover; Failure mechanism; Long-span; Byggvetenskap; Civil and Architectural Engineering;

    Abstract : Soil-steel composite bridges are considered competitive structures being an economical alternative to similar span concrete bridges. This frequently stimulates practitioners to push their design limits and expand the different areas of application including their performance in sloping terrain. READ MORE

  5. 5. Bracing of steel bridges during construction; theory, full-scale tests and simulations

    Author : Hassan Mehri; Avdelningen för Konstruktionsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Bracing; steel-concrete composite; steel; bridge; test; construction; laboratory; experiment; experimental; theory;

    Abstract : A number of steel bridges have suffered lateral-torsional failure during their construction due to their lacking adequate lateral and/or rotational stiffness. In most cases, slight bracing can be of great benefit to the main girders involved through their controlling out-of-plane deformations and enabling the resistance that is needed to be achieved.
