  1. 1. Compound-specific stable chlorine isotope analysis : A versatile tool for investigating biochemical and geochemical processes of organochlorine substances

    Author : Henry Holmstrand; Per Andersson; Örjan Gustafsson; Neil Sturchio; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; compound-specific chlorine isotope analysis; chlorinated organic compounds; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi;

    Abstract : Chlorinated organic compounds (OCls) from anthropogenic sources are generally considered to be a class of chemicals with high potential for ecotoxicity, including infamous substances such as polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB), dichloro-dibenzo-trichloroethane (DDT) and polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDD). OCls are also produced naturally, sometimes at the same order of magnitude as anthropogenic compounds. READ MORE

  2. 2. Stable chlorine isotope analysis of chlorinated acetic acids

    Author : Milena Edith Ivansson; Henry Holmstrand; Örjan Gustafsson; Teresia Svensson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; stable chlorine isotope analysis; chlorinated acetic acids; compound-specific isotope analysis;

    Abstract : Chlorinated acetic acids (CAAs) constitute a group of polar organic compounds that are ubiquitous in the environment. Their environmental occurrence has been extensively studied but their sources are still not well constrained. READ MORE

  3. 3. Application of two dimensional compound specific carbon-chlorine isotope analyses for degradation monitoring and assessment of organic pollutants in contaminated soil and groundwater

    Author : Charline Wiegert; Örjan Gustafsson; Thomas Hofstetter; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; organochlorines; chlorinated ethenes; PCE; TCE; hexachlorocyclohexanes; soil contamination; groundwater contamination; remediation; natural attenuation; biodegradation; carbon isotopes; chlorine isotopes; CSIA; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Nearly 250,000 sites with past and present potentially polluting activities need urgent remediation within Europe. Major pollutants include organochlorines (OCls), e.g. chlorinated ethenes (CEs) and hexachlorocyclohexanes (HCHs), mainly used as industrial solvents and pesticides, respectively. READ MORE
