  1. 1. Development of traffic conflicts technique for different environments: A comparative study of pedestrian conflicts in Sweden and Jordan

    Author : Lina Shbeeb; Trafik och väg; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; perception of conflicts.; non-signalised junctions; signalised junctions; accident prediction; accident to conflict conversion factors; TA-speed graphs; conflict speed; time to accidents; conflict sub-grouping; severity index; threshold; relevant road-user; pedestrian conflict; Traffic safety; traffic conflict technique; Technological sciences; Teknik; Social sciences; Samhällsvetenskaper;

    Abstract : This study is aimed at improving the current Swedish Traffic conflicts Technique [TCT] in relation to vehicle-pedestrian conflicts. The present definition of conflict severity appears to produce less severe conflicts than they might be, particularly if the relevant road user (RRU) is the pedestrian. READ MORE

  2. 2. Conflict and Compromise : An Evolutionary Framework for the Design of Multi-Storey Timber Buildings

    Author : Magnus Larsson; Andreas Falk; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Träbyggnad; Timber Structures;

    Abstract : In January 1995, the architect John Frazer’s groundbreaking study, An Evolutionary Architecture, was published to coincide with an exhibition of the same name at the Architectural Association in London. The book proposed a new methodology for the architectural design process, based on a radical repositioning of the role of the architect. READ MORE

  3. 3. Effects of Safety Measures for Pedestrians and Cyclists at Crossing Facilities on Arterial Roads

    Author : Mohsen Towliat; Institutionen för teknik och samhälle; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Transport technology; arterial roads; interaction points; Keywords: traffic safety; pedestrian and cyclist safety; conflict study; behavioural study; experimental site; control site; physical measure; evaluation design; variable message sign; pedestrian and cycle crossing; speed measurement.; 30 50 road environment; Transportteknik; Road transport technology; Vägtransportteknik;

    Abstract : The principal aims of this thesis are to define suitable measures for safer pedestrian and cycle crossings on arterial roads, to implement these measures on a large scale and to acquire an insight into their effects on road users' safety, experiences, mobility and the environment, by creating a 30 km/h milieu at the above crossings. Two characteristically different types of measures, physical measures and variable message signs, based on three principles, lower speed, no priority and improved and relevant information, are tested within the framework of this project. 4. 4. A Life on the Ocean Wave - Exploring the interaction between the crew and their adaption to the development of the work situation on board Swedish merchant ships

    Author : Monica Lundh; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; engine room; evacuation; work environment; Keywords: Automation; role conflict; ships; stress; engine officers;

    Abstract : ABSTRACTWorking on board merchant ships implies being a part of an isolated context in a multi-cultural arena and spending a lot of time away from family and friends. The shipping industry has during the latest decades undergone major changes due to technical development, automation and increased requirements for profitability and competitiveness. READ MORE

  5. 5. Safety Evaluation Using Counterfactual Simulations: The use of computational driver behavior models in crash avoidance systems and virtual simulations with optimal subsampling

    Author : Xiaomi Yang; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; conflict and crash avoidance; safety assessment; active sampling; Advanced Driver Assistance Systems; Automated Driving Systems; counterfactual simulation; scenario generation; car-to-VRU;

    Abstract : Traffic safety is a problem worldwide. In-vehicle conflict and crash avoidance systems have been under development and assessment for some time, as integral parts of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and Automated Driving Systems (ADS). READ MORE
