1. Cellular and molecular responses of periodontal connective tissue cells to Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans cytolethal distending toxin
Abstract : Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans is present in elevated proportions and numbers in dental bacterial biofilms of patients with localized aggressive periodontitis. This variant of periodontal disease, occurring in adolescents and young adults, is characterized by rapid and severe destruction of the connective tissues and bone supporting the teeth, eventually culminating in tooth loss. 2. On tissue reactions to dentin as a bone substitute material
Abstract : Background Reconstruction of the jaws due to resorption of the alveolar crest may require bone augmentation prior to installation of endosseous implants. Active research on new bone graft materials with bone regeneration ability equivalent to autogenous bone but without the limitations of allogenic, xenogenic and synthetic bone are constantly ongoing. 3. New aspects of tissue mast cells in inflammatory airway diseases
Abstract : Mast cell are found throughout the body, but are especially prominent in tissues that have direct contact with the external milieu such as the skin, gastrointestinal tract and lungs. Mast cells are commonly recognized for their detrimental role in allergic reactions and can, upon activation through the high-affinity receptor for IgE (FcεRI), rapidly produce and secrete many of the mediators responsible for the typical symptoms in urticaria, asthma and rhinitis. 4. Radiation induced pneumonitis : clinical and experimental studies with special emphasis on the effect of smoking
Abstract : Bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) is an established method providing diagnostic support and evaluation of disease activity in interstitial lung disease (ILD). The aims of the present investigation were 1) to study the inflammatory response in pneumonitis evoked by irradiation. READ MORE

5. Cervical ripening : an inflammatory process involving cytokines, metalloproteinases and foetal fibronectin
Abstract : The aim of the thesis was to identify cytokines, metalloproteinases and foetal fibronectin in human cervical tissue and to investigate if changes are of importance for the final cervical ripening. The human cervical ripening is a prerequisite for a normal start and progress of labour. READ MORE
