1. Presence through actions : theories, concepts, and implementations
Abstract : During face-to-face meetings, humans use multimodal information, including verbal information, visual information, body language, facial expressions, and other non-verbal gestures. In contrast, during computer-mediated-communication (CMC), humans rely either on mono-modal information such as text-only, voice-only, or video-only or on bi-modal information by using audiovisual modalities such as video teleconferencing. 2. User Consideration in Early Stages of Product Development : Theories and Methods
Abstract : Traditional design theories have focused on technical functions and more or less disregard a product’s user involvement. The existing methods of ergonomic designare mostly intended for analysis activities. There is a need for new dynamic methods that focus on user-product interactions. READ MORE

3. Rough surfaces in contact : artificial intelligence and boundary lubrication
Abstract : Interacting surfaces are found in mechanical systems and components. Since engineered surfaces are not perfectly smooth, only a fraction of the nominal surface area is actually in contact. This fraction is denoted as the real area of contact, Ar, and is formed by the sum of the contact spots between the two touching surfaces. READ MORE

4. Twisting and Gluing : On Topological Field Theories, Sigma Models and Vertex Algebras
Abstract : This thesis consists of two parts, which can be read separately. In the first part we study aspects of topological field theories. We show how to topologically twist three-dimensional N=2 supersymmetric Chern-Simons theory using a contact structure on the underlying manifold. READ MORE

5. Twisting it up the Quantum Way : On Matrix Models, q-deformations and Supersymmetric Gauge Theories
Abstract : The mathematical framework which quantum field theory constitutes has been very successful in describing nature. As an extension of such a framework, the idea of supersymmetry was introduced. This greatly simplified the mathematical description of the theories, making them more tractable. READ MORE
