  1. 1. In situ remediation of contaminated sediments using thin-layer capping : efficiency in contaminant retention and ecological implications

    Author : Göran S. Samuelsson; Jonas S. Gunnarsson; Bart Koelmans; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Contaminated Sediment Remediation; Activated Carbon; Benthic Community; Ecological Effects; Stress; Resilience; Contaminant Sequestration; Capping Efficiency; Bioavailability; Bioaccumulation; Sediment-to-water fluxes; marin ekotoxikologi; Marine Ecotoxicology;

    Abstract : Hydrophobic organic contaminants (HOCs) often reside in sediments sorbed to particles, most tightly to particles with high content of organic carbon. If persistent, such pollutants can accumulate in the sediment for many years and constitute a contamination risk for sediment-living organisms and organisms at higher trophic levels, including humans. 2. 2. Carrier Lifetime Relevant Deep Levels in SiC

    Author : Ian Don Booker; Einar Sveinbjörnsson; Erik Janzén; Anthony Peaker; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Silicon carbide; Deep level transient spectroscopy; Deep level; Carrier lifetime; Time-resolved photoluminescence;

    Abstract : Silicon carbide (SiC) is currently under development for high power bipolar devices such as insulated gate bipolar transistors (IGBTs). A major issue for these devices is the charge carrier lifetime, which, in the absence of structural defects such as dislocations, is influenced by point defects and their associated deep levels. 3. 3. In situ remediation of contaminated sediments using thin-layer capping : effectiveness in contaminant retention and ecological implications

  4. 4. Effects of contaminant mixtures on marine zooplankton diversity and function

    Author : Christina Jönander; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; zooplankton; copepods; ciliates; dinoflagellates; mixture toxicity; chemical mixtures; marine contaminants; biodiversity; reproduction; ULSFO; closed-loop scrubbers; exhaust gas cleaning systems;

    Abstract : Chemicals have important roles in our society and can be used as ingredients in personal care products, pesticides, pharmaceuticals, as well as be components of fuels used in cars or ships. More than 350 000 chemicals and mixtures have been registered for use, which only covers a part of all the chemicals that we may come into contact with. READ MORE

  5. 5. Stable isotope studies of contaminant and material transport in Baltic pelagic food-webs

    Author : Carl Rolff; Nicholas J.P Owen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; zoologi; Zoology;

    Abstract : Both carbon and nitrogen appear in nature as different stable isotopes. Many natural processes affect the relative proportions of heavy and light isotopes in predictable ways. The isotopic composition of organisms and other organic materials can therefore serve as records of the processes involved in their formation. READ MORE
