  1. 1. Electroremediation of contaminated soil

    Author : Pascal Suèr; Bert Allard; Lisbeth M. Ottosen; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; electrokinetic remediation; contaminated soil; mercury; heavy metals; organic compounds; Chemistry; Kemi; Enviromental Science; Miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Electroremediation was applied to contaminated soils in order to study the transport of metals and organic compounds by the external electric field. The electric field caused acidic conditions near the anode, so that copper, zinc, lead, nickel, cadmium, calcium and manganese were released from soil from a chlor-alkali site. READ MORE

  2. 2. Hazard screening of contaminated sites : bioavailable fractions and biological in vitro tools

    Author : Daniel Ragnvaldsson; Mats Tysklind; Per Leffler; Lars Lövgren; Bengt-Erik Bengtsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hazard screening; bioavailability; metal pollution; in vitro cytotoxicity; water extraction; CCA; arsenic genotoxicity; genotoxicity; Contaminated soil; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi;

    Abstract : The environmental bioavailability of contaminants, rather than their total concentrations in the soil compartment play a decisive role for the risks associated with contaminated sites. Various soil constituents and abiotic conditions have strong influence on bioavailability, which may vary substantially between different locations. READ MORE

  3. 3. Chemical and bioanalytical characterisation of PAH-contaminated soils : identification, availability and mixture toxicity of AhR agonists

    Author : Maria Larsson; Magnus Engwall; Jessika Hagberg; Peter Haglund; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Polycyclic aromatic compounds; Soil; Risk assessment; Mixture studies; AhR-mediated activity; REPs; GC MS; H4IIE-luc bioassay; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : Contaminated soils are a worldwide problem. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are common contaminants in soil at former industrial areas, especially at old gasworks sites, gas stations and former wood impregnation facilities. READ MORE

  4. 4. Colonisation and PAH degradation by wood-rotting fungi in contaminated soil

    Author : Erik Andersson; Bioteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; agricultural hydrology; Soil Science; Bioteknik; Biotechnology; PLFA; PAH metabolites; PAH; degradation; contaminated soil; soil; brown-rot fungi; white-rot fungi; Colonisation; fungal growth; Lantbrukshydrologi; marklära; Chemical technology and engineering; Kemiteknik och kemisk teknologi;

    Abstract : Bioremediation of soils is considered a low-cost alternative to other remediation techniques. Its ability to remove a number of different pollutants has been demonstrated, relying mainly on the activities of indigenous soil bacteria. READ MORE

  5. 5. Stabilization remediation of soils contaminated with per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs)

    Author : Mattias Sörengård; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) are a major global concern in pollution of drinking water sources and aquatic environments. Due to the high persistence and mobility of these compounds, remediation methods for PFAS-contaminated soils are urgently needed to protect the surrounding environment and drinking water source areas.
