  1. 1. Simulation supported training in oral radiology : methods and impact on interpretative skill

    Author : Tore Nilsson; Jan Ahlqvist; Martin Rydmark; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Virtual reality; simulation; simulator; radiology; radiography; learning; skill acquisition; visual-spatial ability; parallax; Radiology; Radiologi; odontologi; Odontology;

    Abstract : Simulation is an important tool when training is hazardous, time consuming, or expensive. Simulation can also be used to enhance reality by adding features normally not available in the real world. READ MORE

  2. 2. Results and complications of endovascular neurointerventions in intracranial aneurysms and arteriovenous malformations, evaluated by conventional angiography and diffusion-perfusion MRI

    Author : Mats Cronqvist; Lund Diagnostisk radiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Endovascular treatment; medical instrumentation; tomography; radiology; Clinical physics; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Diffusion and perfusion; Complications; Magnetic Resonance Imaging; Cerbrovascular malformations; Klinisk fysiologi; radiologi; tomografi; medicinsk instrumentering;

    Abstract : Aims - To describe and evaluate the efficacy and safety of intra-arterial fibrinolysis and the clinical outcome in SAH patients with thromboembolic complications during endovascular coiling of a ruptured aneurysm. (Paper I) - To describe the use and feasibility of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), especially diffusion and perfusion imaging, in three patients treated endovascularly for various cerebrovascular disorders. 3. 3. Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Legg-Calvé-Perthes Disease

    Author : Peter Hochbergs; Lund Diagnostisk radiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Clinical physics; Histology; Metaphysis; Synovitis; Necrosis; Osteotomy; Arthrography; Magnetic Resonance Imaging; Legg-Calvé-Perthes Disease; Pediatrics; Hip; medicinsk instrumentering; tomografi; radiologi; Klinisk fysiologi; medical instrumentation; tomography; radiology;

    Abstract : The aims of this study were: to compare the cartilaginous outline of the femoral head obtained on arthrograms with those on MR images and to correlate it to the bony head outlines on conventional radiograps; to study early, postoperative cartilaginous and bony remodeling of the femoral head, after proximal femoral varus derotation extension osteotomy, with MR imaging and conventional radiography; to describe signal abnormalities on MR images in the femoral epiphysis, their location, extent and restitution over time; to evaluate the degree and persistence of synovitis in the hip joint by MR imaging; to analyze the metaphyseal histology and to correlate it to the signal intensity on the MR images in the corresponding biopsy region. Results and conclusions: MR imaging and arthrography define the shape of the femoral head cartilage equally well. READ MORE

  4. 4. Diffusion MRI of Small Ischemic Brain Lesions: Technical aspects, clinical experiences and diagnostic criteria

    Author : Bo Geijer; Lund Diagnostisk radiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; radiology; Clinical physics; Metastasis; ADC; b; Infarct; MRI; Ischemia; Diffusion-Weighted; Diffusion; tomography; medical instrumentation; Klinisk fysiologi; radiologi; tomografi; medicinsk instrumentering;

    Abstract : Purpose: To compare the visualization of small ischemic brain lesions using diffusion using diffusion-weighted (DW) MRI and conventional imaging, with special regard to diagnostic efficiency. Imaging features of lesions of different ages, diagnostic limitations and technical principles were also investigated. READ MORE

  5. 5. Verification of Dose Calculation Algorithms in Treatment Planning Systems for External Radiation Therapy: A Monte Carlo Approach

    Author : Elinore Wieslander; Lund Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; radiologi; tomografi; medicinsk instrumentering; radiotherapy; dose calculation algorithm; verification; Monte Carlo calculation; electron beam; photon beam; Clinical physics; radiology; tomography; medical instrumentation; Klinisk fysiologi; treatment planning system;

    Abstract : This thesis presents a new verification concept, the virtual accelerator, for dose calculation algorithms used in treatment planning systems (TPSs) for external beam radiotherapy. The algorithm input data required to implement a treatment unit in the TPS are generated by Monte Carlo simulations as are the beam reference data needed for the subsequent evaluation of the dose calculation algorithm.
