1. Copper-transporting proteins and their interactions with platinum-based anticancer substances
Abstract : Cisplatin (CisPt) is an important drug that is used against various cancers, including testicular, ovarian, lung, head, and neck cancer. However, its effects are limited by cellular resistance. READ MORE

2. Mixed metal oxide - noble metal catalysts for total oxidation of volatile organic compounds and carbon monoxide
Abstract : CO, volatile organic compounds, and polyaromatics areubiquitous air pollutants that give rise to deleterious healthand environmental effects. Such compounds are emitted, forinstance, by the combustion of wood, particularly fromsmall-scale heating appliances. READ MORE

3. Colloidal synthesis of metal nanoparticles
Abstract : Metal nanoparticles (NPs) are central in a wide range of industrial areas including catalytic and biomedical applications. Due to their interesting physical properties, the demand of these precious materials is steadily increasing, which has created a need for the development of effective and high-performing NPs. 4. New Materials in Environmental Catalysis
Abstract : This thesis presents new approaches to the control of emissions within the field of environmental catalysis. Three catalytic systems; bimetallic catalysts, perovskites and promoted catalysts have been prepared and evaluated for complete oxidation of volatile organic compounds and for simultaneous conversion of CO, hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxides. 5. Extending Microsystems to Very High Temperatures and Chemically Harsh Environments
Abstract : Aiming at applications in space exploration as well as for monitoring natural hazards, this thesis focuses on understanding and overcoming the challenges of extending the applicability of microsystems to temperatures above 600°C as well as chemically harsh environments. Alumina and zirconia high-temperature co-fired ceramics (HTCC) with platinum as the conductor material, have in this thesis, been used to manufacture a wide range of high-temperature tolerant miniaturized sensors and actuators, including pressure and flow sensors, valves, a combustor, and liquid monopropellant microthrusters.
