  1. 1. Copper-transporting proteins and their interactions with platinum-based anticancer substances

    Author : Maria Espling; Pernilla Wittung-Stafshede; Oleg Dmitriev; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cisplatin; Atox1; copper transport; anticancer drug; resistance; platinum; spectroscopy.; biologisk kemi; biological chemistry;

    Abstract :   Cisplatin (CisPt) is an important drug that is used against various cancers, including testicular, ovarian, lung, head, and neck cancer. However, its effects are limited by cellular resistance. READ MORE

  2. 2. Mixed metal oxide - noble metal catalysts for total oxidation of volatile organic compounds and carbon monoxide

    Author : Magali Ferrandon; KTH; []
    Keywords : wood combustion; catalysts; total oxidation; manganese; copper; platinum; palladium; lanthanum; cerium; CO; VOC; methane; deactivation; thermal stability; sulphur dioxide;

    Abstract : CO, volatile organic compounds, and polyaromatics areubiquitous air pollutants that give rise to deleterious healthand environmental effects. Such compounds are emitted, forinstance, by the combustion of wood, particularly fromsmall-scale heating appliances. READ MORE

  3. 3. Colloidal synthesis of metal nanoparticles

    Author : Anna Pekkari; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; inline quality control; palladium; gold; stabilizers; NO2 reduction; core-shell; colloidal synthesis; copper; reduction kinetics; platinum; nanoparticles; segmented flow; nanocube; flow chemistry;

    Abstract : Metal nanoparticles (NPs) are central in a wide range of industrial areas including catalytic and biomedical applications. Due to their interesting physical properties, the demand of these precious materials is steadily increasing, which has created a need for the development of effective and high-performing NPs. 5. 5. Extending Microsystems to Very High Temperatures and Chemically Harsh Environments

    Author : Zahra Khaji; Lena Klintberg; Klas Hjort; Greger Thornell; Frank Niklaus; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : HTCC; MEMS; MST; Microcombustor; Microthruster; Single-use valve; Wireless pressure sensor; flow sensor; in-situ electroplating; Monopropellant; Platinum; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot mikrosystemteknik; Engineering Science with specialization in Microsystems Technology;

    Abstract : Aiming at applications in space exploration as well as for monitoring natural hazards, this thesis focuses on understanding and overcoming the challenges of extending the applicability of microsystems to temperatures above 600°C as well as chemically harsh environments. Alumina and zirconia high-temperature co-fired ceramics (HTCC) with platinum as the conductor material, have in this thesis, been used to manufacture a wide range of high-temperature tolerant miniaturized sensors and actuators, including pressure and flow sensors, valves, a combustor, and liquid monopropellant microthrusters.
