  1. 1. Geometrical Structure, Phase Diagrams, and Core-Level Binding Energiesof Metal Surfaces: Calculations, Simulations, and Experiments

    Author : Mikael Borg; Synkrotronljusfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; adsorption; chemical shifts; low energy electron diffraction; Monte Carlo simulations; Condensed matter:electronic structure; electrical; magnetic and optical properties; Kondenserade materiens egenskaper:elektronstruktur; spectroscopy; relaxation; magnetic resonance; supraconductors; spektroskopi; magnetisk resonans; supraledare; egenskaper elektriska; magnetiska och optiska ; molecular vibrations; density functional theory; single crystal surfaces; core-level photoemission; metal surfaces; Fysicumarkivet A:2003:Borg;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns clean and adsorbate covered metal surfaces and surface alloys. These systems have been studied using theoretical and experimental methods. In the first part of the thesis, the different techniques that have been utilized in this work are presented, and the included publications are summarized. READ MORE

  2. 2. Influence of Global Composition and Local Environment on the Spectroscopic and Magnetic Properties of Metallic Alloys

    Author : Weine Olovsson; Igor A. Abrikosov; G. Malcolm Stocks; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; core level shift; random alloy; first principles simulations; density functional theory; auger kinetic energy; Invar alloys; exchange parameter; classical Heisenberg Hamiltonian; complete screening; transition state; disorder broadening; Fysik; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : Theoretical investigations of spectroscopic and magnetic properties of metallic systems in the bulk, as well as in nanostructured materials, have been performed within the density functional theory. The major part of the present work studies the differences between binding energies of electrons tightly bound to the atoms, the so-called core electrons (in contrast with the valence electrons), that is, core-level binding energy shift (CLS). 3. 3. Post-Glacial History of Sea-Level and Environmental Change in the Southern Baltic Sea

    Author : Marloes Kortekaas; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; kartografi; klimatologi; Geofysik; fysisk oceanografi; physical oceanography; meteorology; Sedimentologi; Stratigrafi; Stratigraphy; Baltic Sea; geokemi; Petrologi; mineralogi; geochemistry; mineralogy; Petrology; greigite; mineral magnetics; sea-level changes; Holocene; Littorina transgression; geomorphology; pedology; cartography; climatology; meteorologi; Geophysics; Sedimentology; Optically Stimulated Luminescence OSL ; Fysisk geografi; geomorfologi; marklära; Physical geography;

    Abstract : A new palaeoenvironmental record of the post-glacial history of the southern Baltic Sea (~14 ka to present) is presented. During this period, large water level and salinity changes occurred in the Baltic Basin due to opening and closing of connections to the North Atlantic. READ MORE

  4. 4. Simulation Modelling of a Shift to Service-Based Offerings : Resource efficiency and operational implications in the context of the circular economy

    Author : Raphael Wasserbaur; Tomohiko Sakao; Erik Sundin; Steve Evans; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; resource efficiency; resource effectiveness; circular economy CE ; sociotechnical systems; systems thinking; simulation; product service system PSS ; system dynamics;

    Abstract : The unsustainable levels of resource use and emissions of our economies and their threat to future generations are core issues of our time. The circular economy (CE) conceptualises a different type of economy that is restorative and regenerative by design and aims to keep products, components and materials at their highest utility and value at all times, distinguishing between technical and biological cycles. 5. 5. Temporal Distance and Morality : Moral Concerns Loom Larger in the Distant Future

    Author : Jens Agerström; Institutionen för psykologi; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; moral concerns; morality; moral judgment; Construal Level Theory; temporal distance; moral reasoning;

    Abstract : The aim of this dissertation was to examine whether the temporal distance of moral events affects the moral judgments and decisions people make in response to those events. Drawing upon Construal Level Theory (CLT; Trope & Liberman, 2003) which posits that the distant future is represented at a higher, more abstract level of mental construal than the near future, and that high-level mental construals shift attention to core values and higher-order principles, the main proposition of this dissertation was that people would show greater moral concerns in response to distant future events than near future events.
