  1. 1. Target zones : theory and evidence

    Author : Mats Kinnwall; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Prisutveckling;

    Abstract : In three papers we analyze the effects on different economic variables of implementing explicit target zones for economic policy. The first paper examines and tests two different models for devaluations in a target zone. READ MORE

  2. 2. Efficient sampling of Bayesian posteriors and predictive distributions in χEFT

    Author : Isak Svensson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; chiral effective field theory; Bayesian parameter estimation; nuclear physics; Markov chain Monte Carlo; two-nucleon scattering;

    Abstract : In this thesis I employ Bayesian statistics to quantify parametric and epistemic uncertainties in chiral effective field theories (χEFT) and propagate these forward to predictions of observables in low-energy nuclear physics. Two primary sources of uncertainty---experimental errors and the theoretical error induced by the truncation of the EFT at up to next-to-next-to-leading-order---are modelled and accounted for in the posterior distributions of the unknown low-energy constants (LECs) that govern interaction strengths in χEFT. 3. 3. An Institutional Analysis of Insurance Regulation - The Case of Sweden

    Author : P Göran T Hägg; Nationalekonomiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Misguided Trust; Prime Move Problem; Trust-sensitive Contracts; The Economics of Trust; The Special Interest Theory; The Public Interest Theory; Transaction Costs; Institutional Theory; Insurance Regulation; Institutions; Reputation; Quality.; Actuarial science; Försäkring ej försäkringsrätt S137 ;

    Abstract : The thesis is a broad attempt to analyse economic forces behind, and economic rationales for, institutions that constrain the organisation and operation of insurance companies. The basic task is threefold: (i) to develop institutional theory by providing an outline of a transaction cost explanation of the origin of, and the rationale for, institutions that constrain the organisation and the operation of insurance organisations; (ii) to apply our institutional theory and explain recorded institutional structures in order to make them intelligible with respect to the contractual context in which they have been nested; and (iii) to appraise the explanatory power of our institutional theory with respect to conventional economic theories on the economics of public regulation. 4. 4. On the Logic of Theory Change : Extending the AGM Model

    Author : Eduardo Fermé; John Cantwell; David Makinson; KTH; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Logic of Theory Change. AGM model. Belief Bases; Iterated Models; Multiple belief change; AGM and defeasible Logic; Logic; Logik;

    Abstract : This thesis consists in six articles and a comprehensive summary. • The pourpose of the summary is to introduce the AGM theory of belief change and to exemplify the diversity and significance of the research that has been inspired by the AGM article in the last 25 years. READ MORE

  5. 5. Statistical methods for knowledge discovery in adverse drug reaction surveillance

    Author : G. Niklas Norén; Rolf Sundberg; I. Ralph Edwards; Heikki Mannila; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mathematical statistics; Matematisk statistik; Mathematical Statistics; matematisk statistik;

    Abstract : Collections of individual case safety reports are the main resource for early discovery of unknown adverse reactions to drugs once they have been introduced to the general public. The data sets involved are complex and based on voluntary submission of reports, but contain pieces of very important information. READ MORE
