  1. 1. Outcomes of invasive treatment in chronic limb-threatening ischaemia

    Author : Angelica Perlander; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; chronic limb-threatening ischaemia; health-related quality of life; cost effectiveness; bypass; endovascular; amputation-free survival; critical limb ischaemia;

    Abstract : Background In chronic limb-threatening ischaemia (CLTI), obstruction of the arterial blood flow causes ischaemic rest pain, ulcers or gangrene in the lower extremities. Patients with CLTI have a substantial risk of amputation unless the blood flow is improved, which requires invasive treatment through either open surgery or endovascular intervention. READ MORE

  2. 2. CRITICAL LIMB ISCHAEMIA WITH SPECIAL EMPHASIS ON EPIDEMIOLOGY, INFLAMMATORY MARKERS AND CARDIAC FUNCTION

    Author : Jamal Barani; Vaskulära sjukdomar - kliniska studier; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Risk factors.; Peripheral arterial disease.; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Critical limb ischaemia.; inflammatory markers.; Mortality.; Congestive heart failure.;

    Abstract : In Conclusion Paper I. In patients undergoing aorto-iliac angiography, no effects of the procedure were seen upon inflammatory mediators. On the other hand, angiography influenced markers of platelet activation in these patients. Paper II. READ MORE

  3. 3. Quality of life in patients with cronical lower limb ischaemia: Before and after revascularisation

    Author : Rosemarie Klefsgård; Institutionen för hälsovetenskaper; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Percutaneous Transluminal Angioplasti; By-Pass; critical ischaemia; Intermittent claudication; Sence of Coherence; Short Form 36; Quality of life; Nottingham Health Profile; traumatologi; ortopedi; Kirurgi; traumatology; orthopaedics; Surgery; Validity; Responsiveness; Effect Size; Outcome;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to assess quality of life in patients with varying degrees of lower limb ischaemia before and after revascularisation, to assess quality of life in relation to the degree of ischaemia and the respondents’ sense of coherence (SOC) and in comparison with a healthy control group, and to compare two different quality of life instruments regarding their usefulness as outcome measures. Patients were assessed using the Nottingham Health Profile (NHP) and the SOC scale before and six months after successful revascularisation and compared with 102 healthy controls. READ MORE

  4. 4. Infrainguinal Percutaneous Transluminal Angioplasty in Limbs with Severe Lower Limb Ischaemia

    Author : Anne-Marie Löfberg; Wojciech Cwikiel; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Oncology; infrainguinal; chronic ischaemia; percutaneous transluminal angioplasty; duplex; bypass grafts; Onkologi; Oncology; Onkologi; radiologi; Radiology;

    Abstract : Infrainguinal bypass grafting is an established method in the treatment of patients with femoropopliteal and crural occlusive disease leading to critical lower limb ischaemia (CLI). However, complications related to surgical procedure are not negligible and percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) has emerged as an alternative. READ MORE

  5. 5. Markers of tissue ischaemia in lower limb arterial insufficiency : an experimental and clinical study

    Author : Göran Lundberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Limb ischaemia; diagnosis; metabolism; skeletal muscle; subcutaneous adipose tissue; microdialysis; muscle biopsy; lactate; perfusion; lower body positive pressure; human; rat; ;

    Abstract : Lower limb ischaemic rest pain, ulcers or gangrene are late consequences of advanced peripheral arterial disease, one of the facets of systemic atherosclerosis. The majority of patients will meet current criteria for critical limb ischaemia (CLI). Life expectancy in these patients is severely limited mainly due to coexisting coronary heart disease. READ MORE
