  1. 1. Crustacean immunity : Characterization of some crayfish blood proteins

    Author : Pia Gambäck Keyser; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Plant physiology; Växtfysiologi; Plant physiology; Växtfysiologi; fysiologisk mykologi; Physiological Mycology;

    Abstract : The cDNA sequence and some properties of a previously purified #x03B2;-1,3-glucan binding protein are reported here. The putative amino acid sequence (predicted molecular mass: 152 kDa) of the protein did not show any significant similarity to any known protein, but an RGD motif and a region with slight similarity to bacterial glucanase was found. 2. 2. Hematopoiesis in a Crustacean

    Author : Xionghui Lin; Irene Söderhäll; Kenneth Söderhäll; Michael J. Williams; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; astakine; cytokine; hematopoiesis; prokineticin; transglutaminase; ATP synthase; innate immunity; apoptosis; Immunology; Immunologi; Biology with specialization in Comparative Physiology; Biologi med inriktning mot jämförande fysiologi;

    Abstract : Hemocytes (blood cells) play an important role in the immune response in invertebrates, and thus the regulation of hemocyte homeostasis (hematopoiesis) is essential for the host survival against pathogens. Astakine 1, a homologue to vertebrate prokineticins, was first identified in the freshwater crayfish Pacifastacus leniusculus as a cytokine, and was found to be necessary for new hemocyte synthesis and release in vivo, and also to induce spreading and proliferation of Hematopoietic tissue cells (Hpt cells, precursor of hemocytes) in vitro. 3. 3. Hematopoiesis, Kazal Inhibitors and Crustins in a Crustacean

    Author : Young-A Kim; Kenneth Soderhall; Irene Soderhall; Shun-ichiro Kawabata; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Biochemistry; innate immunity; cytokine; hematopoietic tissue; ATP synthase β subunit; Kazal; antibacterial peptides; Biokemi;

    Abstract : Hemocytes are important as storage and producers of proteins of the innate immune defence, as well as actors of the cellular immune response. Therefore the hematopoietic process is critical for survival of most invertebrates. READ MORE

  4. 4. Immune defense reactions in freshwater crayfish : Cellular components

    Author : Charlotta Ekblom; Irene Söderhäll; Kallaya Sritunyalucksana-Dangtip; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; crustaceans; hemocytes; immunity; crayfish; proteomics; transcriptomics; Biology with specialization in Comparative Physiology; Biologi med inriktning mot jämförande fysiologi;

    Abstract : The freshwater signal crayfish, Pacifastacus leniusculus, is a well-established model for studying the immune system of invertebrates. Many important discoveries have been made in this species, among others related to the clotting reaction, hematopoiesis, the prophenoloxidase activating system, the functions of crustacean immune cells, and pathogen recognition. 5. 5. Functional Studies of Some Immune Relevant Genes in a Crustacean

    Author : Haipeng Liu; Kenneth Söderhäll; Irene Söderhäll; Lage Cerenius; Ingrid Faye; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; anti-LPS factor; crayfish; hemocyte; innate immunity; melanization; phenoloxidase; RNA interference; WSSV; Biology; Biologi;

    Abstract : The freshwater crayfish, Pacifastacus leniusculus, mounts a strong innate immune response against microbes such as viruses and bacteria. In this thesis, a novel RNA interference (RNAi) method mediated with histone H2A was developed and applied in crayfish hematopoietic tissue cell cultures for gene functional studies. READ MORE
