1. Characteristic properties of two-dimensional superconductors close to the phase transition in zero magnetic field
Abstract : The main focus of this thesis lies on the critical properties of twodimensional (2D) superconductors in zero magnetic field. Simulations based on variants of the 2D XY model are shown to give characteristic features close to the phase transition which agree qualitatively with experimental data. READ MORE

2. Confinement and resonant phenomena in small Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 mesa structures
Abstract : In this thesis, intrinsic Josephson junctions, naturally formed in the stronglyanisotropic high-temperature superconductor Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8, are studied experimentally.Small mesa structures are fabricated on the surface of singlecrystals using micro- and nano-fabrication tools, focused ion beam is used toreduce the mesa-area to ≈ 1 × 1 μm2. 3. Charging effects in small capacitance Josephson junction circuits
Abstract : This thesis describes fabrication, measurements and analysisof two different Josephson junction circuits; the Cooper pairtransistor (CPT) and the one dimensional Josephson junctionarray (JJA). All experiments are conducted in a dilutionrefrigerator with a base temperature of 15{30 mK. READ MORE

4. Computational Modelling of Organic Bioelectronic Devices and Materials
Abstract : Bioelectronics being the intersection field between electronics and biology, aims to investigate the transduction between electronic signals and ionic signals within a biological environment. Organic materials such as conducting polymers are extensively utilized in the fabrication and development of bioelectronic devices due to their ability to conduct both electrons and ions. READ MORE
