1. Cholesterol in T cells : homeostasis, plasma membrane organization and signaling
Abstract : The plasma membrane of eukaryotic cells contains cholesterol and glycosphingolipids enriched nanodomains known as lipid rafts; which are believed to exist in a liquid ordered (lo) state. Methyl-beta-cyclodextrin (MBCD) is used to deplete cellular cholesterol and a widespread assumption is that MBCD preferentially targets cholesterol in lipid rafts. READ MORE

2. Ion channels and electrical activity in vascular smooth muscle: Effects of calcium store depletion, cholesterol and cholesterol-lowering drugs
Abstract : Smooth muscle cells (SMCs) in the vessel wall contract to regulate blood flow and pressure, a function essential for normal circulation through tissues. On the other hand, migration and proliferation of SMCs are important factors in vascular disease, such as atherosclerosis and restenosis following surgical dilatation. READ MORE

3. Plasma membrane order; the role of cholesterol and links to actin filaments
Abstract : The connection between T cell activation, plasma membrane order and actin filament dynamics was the main focus of this study. Laurdan and di-4-ANEPPDHQ, membrane order sensing probes, were shown to report only on lipid packing rather than being influenced by the presence of membrane-inserted peptides justifying their use in membrane order studies. 4. Caveolae in insulin signalling in human and rat adipocytes
Abstract : The pancreatic hormone insulin is a key hormone in maintenance of metabolic homeostasis but it also exerts control on gene expression and cell growth. This thesis presents results on fhe role of caveolae in insulin signalling in human and rat adipocytes. READ MORE

5. Development of a protein-free fed-batch process for NS0 cells: studies on regulation of proliferation
Abstract : The overall objective of this study was to investigate how NS0 cell proliferation is regulated in protein-free media. The hypothesis was that during the adaptation to growth factor-free media, animal cell lines start to produce their own autocrine growth factors to support proliferation, and after some time in a culture the effects of these factors are lost which results in cessation of proliferation.
