  1. 1. Structure and Function of Cytochrome c Oxidase

    Author : Gisela Brändén; Peter Brzezinski; Mårten Wikström; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cytochrome c oxidase; proton pumping; proton transfer; electron transfer; X-ray crystallography; flow flash; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Abstract : Aerobic organisms, ranging from bacteria to humans, obtain their energy through the process of respiration. Electrons from the breakdown of food are transported through the membrane-bound enzyme complexes of the respiratory chain, to the terminal acceptor molecule, oxygen. READ MORE

  2. 2. Quantum Chemical Interpretation of Protein Crystal Structure

    Author : Kristina Nilsson; Beräkningskemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; structure; Theoretical chemistry; quantum chemistry; Teoretisk kemi; kvantkemi; protein; ComQum-X; Hess2FF; QM MM; hetero-compound; metal; oxidation state; protonation; force field; quantum refinement; refinement;

    Abstract : An initial model in the crystallographic structure determination process, usually contains many errors. To produce an accurate model, one must carry out several cycles of crystallographic refinement. READ MORE

  3. 3. Structure and function of cytochrome c peroxidase

    Author : Ulf Skoglund; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The crystallographic structure of cytochrome c peroxidase is analyzed together with its behavior in the X-ray beam and crystallization experiments. The structure of the iron free form of the enzyme is compared with the native enzyme in the active site region. A catalytic mechanism, based on this comparison is then proposed for the enzyme. 4. 4. Structure and Biogenesis of Membrane Proteins

    Author : Mama Ndi; Martin Ott; Alexander Kastaniotis; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cbp3; cytochrome b; respiratory complex III; alternative translation initiation and sodium proton exchange; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Abstract : Membrane proteins make up about one-third of the cellular proteome. The diverse roles that membrane proteins have in cells include major life-sustaining processes, making them major drug targets. READ MORE

  5. 5. Structural Plasticity and Function in Cytochrome cd1 Nitrite Reductase

    Author : Tove Sjögren; Christian Cambillau; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; cytochrome cd1; nitrite reductase; oxidase; redox protein; electron transfer; proton transfer; X-ray crystallography; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : Cytochrome cd1 nitrite reductase is a bifunctional enzyme, which catalyses the one-electron reduction of nitrite to nitric oxide, and the four-electron reduction of oxygen to water. The latter is a cytochrome oxidase reaction. Both reactions occur on the d1 haem iron of the enzyme. READ MORE
