  1. 1. Approaches to analyses of cytotoxic cells. And studies of their role in H. pylori infection

    Author : Josef Azem; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Helicobacter pylori; mucosal immunology; stomach; duodenum; asymptomatic; duodenal ulcer; gastric adenocarcinoma; NK cells; T cells; B cells; dendritic cells; cytotoxic;

    Abstract : Helicobacter pylori infection causes chronic gastritis that may progress to peptic ulcers or gastric adenocarcinoma and thereby cause major world-wide health problems. Previous studies have shown that CD4+ T cells and the production of the cytokine IFN- × are important components of the immune response to H. pylori in humans. READ MORE

  2. 2. Human intestinal T lymphocytes : a comparative analysis of phenotype and function in normal and inflamed mucosa

    Author : Silvia Melgar; Nadine Cerf-Bensussan; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; human intestinal mucosa; intraepithelial lymphocyte; lamina propria lymphocyte; γδ T cell; regulatory T cell; cytotoxicity; cytokine; basal lymphoid aggregate; ulcerative colitis; Crohn s disease;

    Abstract : The epithelial lining of the gut must allow immediate contact with beneficial components as nutrients and normal microflora. At the same time it runs the constant risk of attack from pathogenic microbes and noxious agents. READ MORE

  3. 3. Control of Epstein-Barr virus infection by cytotoxic T lymphocytes

    Author : Pedro-Otavio de Campos-Lima; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Epstein-Barr virus; Cytotoxic T lymphocytes; T cell receptor; CTLescape mutants;

    Abstract : Cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTL) play a critical role in response to Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), a widespread human herpes virus that persists in healthy carriers as a latent infection of B cells and is implicated in the pathogenesis of lymphoid and epithelial cell malignancies. Six virus encoded nuclear antigens, EBNA1-6, and three membrane proteins, LMP1, -2A and -2B, are regularly detected in EBV transformed lymphoblastoid cell lines (LCLs). READ MORE

  4. 4. Modulation of tumor sensitivity to effector mechanisms of cytotoxic lymphocytes

    Author : Kristian Hallermalm; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Tumor escape; cytotoxic lymphocytes; interferon-gamma; TNF-alpha; granzyme B; Perforin; Fas ligand;

    Abstract : Today, ample evidence demonstrates a clear role for the immune system in the battle against cancer. However, the relatively high rate of mutation and proliferation of tumor cells, in combination with the selective pressure exerted by the immune system, can potentially lead to the generation of genetically altered tumor cells, which are able to evade recognition by the immune system and continue to grow and form tumors. 5. 5. Adaptive immune response in the intestinal mucosa of microscopic colitis patients

    Author : Ashok Kumar Kumawat; Elisabeth Hultgren-Hörnquist; Johan Bohr; Curt Tysk; Allan Sirsjö; Samuel Lundin; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Microscopic colitis; collagenous colitis; lymphocytic colitis; intraepithelial lymphocytes; lamina propria lymphocytes; T cell receptor excision circle; T helper cells; cytotoxic T lymphocyte and mucosal cytokines; Biomedicin; Biomedicine;

    Abstract : Microscopic colitis (MC) is a chronic diarrhoeal disease of unknown aetiology, comprising collagenous colitis (CC) and lymphocytic colitis (LC). The nature of the adaptive local immune responses in the mucosa of MC patients is however far from elucidated. READ MORE
