  1. 1. Towards a discourse-based model of English sentence intonation

    Author : Merle Horne; Allmän språkvetenskap; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; intonation; discourse; text-to-speech; information focus; pitch; F0; grammatical functions; coreference; prominence; baseline; phonological grid; F0 range; declination; contrastive prominence; syntactic parallelism; phonological phrase; rhythm rule; sentence stress; constrative stress; Raddoppiamento Sintattico; Monosyllabic Destressing; intonational phrase; speech chunk; speech synthesis;

    Abstract : English non-expressive, declarative sentence intonation is examined in a discourse context. A rule system, geared to a text-to-speech context is developed which assigns sentence prominences related to information focus. READ MORE

  2. 2. Aerodynamic assessment of velopharyngeal function in speech

    Author : Hans Dotevall; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Speech production measurements; speech aerodynamics; velopharyngeal function; nasal airflow; perceptual speech evaluation; hypernasality; cleft palate speech; sleep disordered breathing; snoring; sleep apnea;

    Abstract : Velopharyngeal function in speech was assessed by aerodynamic techniques, which were developed and tested. Temporal and dynamic characteristics of the nasal airflow pattern during the velopharyngeal closing phase in speech were studied in different patient groups. Its validity in relation to listener's perceptual evaluation of speech was analyzed. READ MORE

  3. 3. Empirical Modeling of Solar Induced Variations of Nitric Oxide in the Upper Mesosphere and Lower Thermosphere

    Author : Joonas Kiviranta; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mesosphere; nitric oxide; Odin; thermosphere; empirical modeling; SANOMA;

    Abstract : Nitric Oxide (NO) is produced by solar photolysis and auroral activity in the upper mesosphere and lower thermosphere region and can, via transport processes, eventually impact the ozone layer in the stratosphere. This thesis uses measurements of NO taken between 2004 and 2016 by the Odin Sub Millimetre Radiometer (SMR) to build an empirical model which links the prevailing solar and auroral conditions with the measured number density of NO. 4. 4. Pollen analysis, chronology and palaeomagnetism of three Late Weichselian sites in southern Sweden

    Author : Jonas Ising; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; southern Sweden; calendar year chronology; Late Weichselian; Pollen stratigraphy; palaeomagnetic secular variations; Geology; physical geography; Geologi; fysisk geografi;

    Abstract : Three sites, Torreberga in Skåne, Farslycke in Blekinge and Lake Bolmen in Småland, with Late Weichselian lake sediments were studied with respect to pollen analysis and palaeomagnetism. The chronologies are based on pollen stratigraphical correlations, radiocarbon dating and, for two of the sites, on a clay-varve chronology. READ MORE

  5. 5. Aerodynamic measurements of normal voice

    Author : Eva Holmberg; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Normal voice; inverse filtering; glottal airflow waveform; subglottal air pressure; Phonetics; Fonetik; Phonetics; fonetik;

    Abstract : Vocal fold vibration results from an alternating balance between subglottal air pressure that drives the vocal folds apart and muscular, elastic, and restoring forces that draw them together. The aim of the present thesis is to present quantitative data of normal vocal function using a noninvasive method. READ MORE
