  1. 1. Samarium(II)-mediated Reactions in Organic Synthesis - Method Development and Mechanistic Investigation

    Author : Tobias Ankner; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Samarium II iodide; reduction; single electron transfer; nitro group reduction; mechanistic study; bond cleavage; deoxygenation; additives; toluenesulfonyl deprotection; defluorination.;

    Abstract : This thesis describes the development of methods using divalent samarium reagents in organic synthesis. The main focus is placed on functional group reductions, but reductive formation of carbon-carbon bonds has also been investigated. READ MORE

  2. 2. C1 Building Blocks: New Approaches for Thiomethylations and Esterification

    Author : Marcus Söderström; Luke R. Odell; Anders Karlén; Vittorio Pace; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Borontrifluoride; Dimethylsulfide; Thiomethylation; Methylthioethers; Dithioacetalation; Methyl-Dithioacetals; Friedel-Crafts; Diarylmethanes; Defluorination; Methyl-Dithioesters; Thioamides; Diazomethane; Esterification; Medicinal Chemistry; Läkemedelskemi; Medicinal Chemistry; Läkemedelskemi;

    Abstract : The thioether motif is found in numerous pharmaceuticals. The simplest form of this motif, the methyl-thioether is similarly found in many biologically active compounds and has exhibited many advantageous properties. The installation of the thiomethyl moiety can be troublesome due to the toxicity and malodor of small sulfur reagents. READ MORE

  3. 3. Asymmetric Hydrogenations using N, P - Ligated Iridium Complexes

    Author : Alexander Paptchikhine; Pher G. Andersson; Karl Anker Jørgensen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; asymmetric hydrogenation; iridium; birch; boronates; fluorine;

    Abstract : The research described in this thesis focuses on the catalytic asymmetric hydrogenation of prochiral olefins using N, P – chelated iridium catalysts. This catalytic system is tolerant to a wide range of substrates and performs better than the well-known ruthenium- and rhodium-catalytic systems for substrates devoid of coordinating groups in proximity of the olefin. 4. 4. Asymmetric Synthesis and Mechanistic Insights of Transition-Metal-Catalyzed Hydrogenation

    Author : Jianping Yang; Pher G. Andersson; Clément Mazet; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Asymmetric hydrogenation; Iridium catalysis; Rhodium catalysis; Chiral organofluorine; Enantioconvergent catalysis; Arene hydrogenation; Organic Chemistry; organisk kemi;

    Abstract : The work presented in this thesis is focused on asymmetric synthesis and mechanistic insights of hydrogenations catalyzed by Ir-N,P- and Rh-diphosphine complexes. The developed methodologies provide an efficient catalytic system to access optically enriched compounds by exploiting the effect of the N,P ligand structure and investigating the enantioconvergent behavior. 5. 5. Synthesis and evaluation of new PET radioloigands for imaging central norepinephrine transporters

    Author : Magnus Schou; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : PET; Radioligand; NET; Brain;

    Abstract : The noradrenergic (NE), serotonergic (5-HT) and dopaminergic (DA) neurotransmission systems all have specific proteins responsible for the regulation of synaptic concentrations of neurotransmitter in the central nervous system (CNS) and in the periphery. Several reports have shown that the expression of these proteins, the monoamine transporters, within the CNS, may be altered in patients with certain neurodegenerative or neuropsychiatric disorders.
