    Abstract : The present thesis is devoted to the homogenization of certain elliptic and parabolic partial differential equations by means of appropriate generalizations of the notion of two-scale convergence. Since homogenization is defined in terms of H-convergence, we desire to find the H-limits of sequences of periodic monotone parabolic operators with two spatial scales and an arbitrary number of temporal scales and the H-limits of sequences of two-dimensional possibly non-periodic linear elliptic operators by utilizing the theories for evolution-multiscale convergence and λ-scale convergence, respectively, which are generalizations of the classical two-scale convergence mode and custom-made to treat homogenization problems of the prescribed kinds. 2. 2. Analysis of Dynamics of the Tippe Top

    Author : Nils Rutstam; Stefan Rauch; Hans Lundmark; Tudor Ratiu; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The Tippe Top is a toy that has the form of a truncated sphere with a small peg. When spun on its spherical part on a flat supporting surface it will start to turn upside down to spin on its peg. READ MORE

  3. 3. Biomechanical methods and error analysis related to chronic musculoskeletal pain

    Author : Fredrik Öhberg; Mats Djupsjöbacka; Åke Öberg; Högskolan i Gävle; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cervical spine; ensemble theory; error analysis; helical axis; kinematics; movement analysis; neural coding; pattern recognition; spike sorting; whiplash; Medical technology; Medicinsk teknik;

    Abstract : Background Spinal pain is one of humanity’s most frequent complaints with high costs for the individual and society, and is commonly related to spinal disorders. There are many origins behind these disorders e.g., trauma, disc hernia or of other organic origins. READ MORE

  4. 4. Clarkson type inequalities and geometric properties of banach spaces

    Author : Anna Klisinska; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Matematik; Mathematics; Mathematics Education; Matematik och lärande;

    Abstract : In this thesis Clarkson's inequalities and their generalizations are the main tools. The technique that can be used to prove Clarkson type inequalities in more dimensions is shown. We also establish Clarkson type inequalities in general Banach spaces and point out the connections between Clarkson's inequalities and the concept of type and cotype. READ MORE

    Abstract : The problem of describing two-dimensional traveling water waves is considered. The water region is of finite depth and the interface between the region and the air is given by the graph of a function. We assume the flow to be incompressible and neglect the effects of surface tension. READ MORE
