1. Modelling effects of flame development on stationary and oscillating premixed turbulent combustion
Abstract : The vast majority of contemporary models of premixed turbulent flames applied to multi-dimensional RANS numerical simulations of combustion in gas turbine engines and aero-engine afterburners focus on fully-developed flames, characterized by fully-developed turbulent diffusivity, thickness, and burning velocity. However, abundant experimental data obtained from statistically stationary premixed flames clearly show that a typical turbulent flame develops as it is convected by mean flow from a stabilization zone. 2. Alloy Design and Characterization of γ′ Strengthened Nickel-based Superalloys for Additive Manufacturing
Abstract : Nickel-based superalloys, an alloy system bases on nickel as the matrix element with the addition of up to 10 more alloying elements including chromium, aluminum, cobalt, tungsten, molybdenum, titanium, and so on. Through the development and improvement of nickel-based superalloys in the past century, they are well proved to show excellent performance at the elevated service temperature. READ MORE

3. Identification and validation of therapeutic targets in sarcoma models
Abstract : In spite of the low incidence of sarcomas, they are highly aggressive tumors, with high metastatic potential, and resistance to both chemotherapy and radiotherapy, leaving surgery as the only treatment option. There is evidently an urgent need in identifying molecular targets and oncogenic pathways in sarcomas that can be used for the development and evaluation of drugs directed against these tumors. 4. Application of Laser-based Diagnostics to a Prototype Gas Turbine Burner at Selected Pressures
Abstract : The matured laser-diagnostic techniques of planar laser-induced fluorescence (PLIF) and particle image velocimetry (PIV) were applied to a prototype gas turbine burner operating on various fuels. The work was performed to provide verification of computational fluid dynamic (CFD) models of the combustion of atypical fuels in a gas turbine combustor. READ MORE

5. Experimental Investigation of Three-Dimensional Mechanisms in Low-Pressure Turbine Flutter
Abstract : The continuous trend in gas turbine design towards lighter, more powerful and more reliable engines on one side and use of alternative fuels on the other side renders flutter problems as one of the paramount challenges in engine design. Flutter denotes a self-excited and self-sustained aeroelastic instability phenomenon that can lead to material fatigue and eventually damage of structure in a short period of time unless properly damped.
