1. Integrating multi-omics for type 2 diabetes : Data science and big data towards personalized medicine
Abstract : Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a complex metabolic disease characterized by multi-tissue insulin resistance and failure of the pancreatic β-cells to secrete sufficient amounts of insulin. Cells recruit transcription factors (TF) to specific genomic loci to regulate gene expression that consequently affects the protein and metabolite abundancies. READ MORE

2. New sensitive and specific methods for sex steroid measurements in rodent serum and tissues
Abstract : Accurate measurement of sex steroids (androgens, estrogens, and progesterone) is essential in research and clinical settings for common diseases including osteoporosis, prostate cancer, breast cancer, and cardiovascular diseases. Sex steroids are not only produced in the gonads and adrenals but may also be locally synthesized in peripheral target tissues. READ MORE

3. The role of galectin-1 in type 2 diabetes. Clinical and experimental studies
Abstract : Aim: The purpose of this thesis was to identify a new agent in the subcutaneous adipose tissue and assess its clinical potential in the context of type 2 diabetes. Study I: Through a combination of microdialysis and mass-spectrometry, we found increased galectin-1 levels in the subcutaneous adipose tissue in a small experimental study of 15 men with and without type 2 diabetes. 4. Studies of atherogenic lipoproteins using mass spectrometry-based lipidomics
Abstract : The prevalence of type 2 diabetes is increasing worldwide and is about to reach epidemic proportions. The disease is often associated with dyslipidemia which is characterized by an atherogenic lipoprotein profile including elevated serum triacylglycerol levels, low high-density lipoprotein levels and high levels of small low-density lipoproteins. 5. Metabolite Alterations and Cardiometabolic Disease: A Nutritional Perspective
Abstract : Background Cardiovascular disease (CVD), type 2 diabetes (T2DM), and atrial fibrillation (AF) collectively impact millions globally, necessitating a comprehensive understanding of preceding metabolic alterations for early intervention. This thesis aims to explore metabolic shifts across populations-based cohorts and evaluate the metabolic impact of a dietary intervention. READ MORE
