1. Biomimetic Iron Complexes involved in Oxygenation and Chlorination : A Theoretical Study
Abstract : Biomimetic chemistry is directed towards the simulation of enzymatic reactivity with synthetic analogues. In this thesis a quantum chemical method has been employed to study the mechanism of highly reactive iron-oxo complexes involved in oxygenation and chlorination of organic substrates. READ MORE

2. Thermal Conductivity of Materials under Conditions of Planetary Interiors
Abstract : The presented thesis focuses on study of transport and thermoelastic properties of materials under conditions of planetary interiors by means of high-pressure experimental tools and finite element modeling, and their role in the dynamics and states of cores of terrestrial planets. Experiments in laser-heated diamond anvil cell (LHDAC) in combination with numerical simulations of heat transfer in DAC are shown to yield information on thermal conductivity of a pressurized sample. 3. Ore and rock mass characterization using borehole geophysics
Abstract : A geophysical log represents the measurement of a geophysical parameter along a borehole, plotted against time or depth. A variety of geophysical logging tools exist that measure different geophysical parameters. READ MORE

4. Charge and Spin Transport in Parallel-Coupled Quantum Dots in Nanowires
Abstract : This thesis explores crystal-phase engineering of nanowires to fabricate advanced quantum structures for charge and spin transport studies. Quantum dots formed by crystal-phase tuning during epitaxial growth of InAs nanowires were used as a starting point to realize and electrically characterize two different types of parallel-coupled quantum dots; electron-hole quantum dots and electron-electron quantum dots. 5. Studies of Material Properties using Ab Initio and Classical Molecular Dynamics
Abstract : In this thesis, material properties have been examined under extreme conditions in computer-based calculations. The research on iron (Fe), nickel (Ni), and ferropericlase (Mg1-xFexO) are not only important for our understanding of the Earth, but also for an improved knowledge of these materials per se.
