  1. 1. Nitrogen transformations in wetlands: Effects of water flow patterns

    Author : Torbjörn Davidsson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hydrobiology; hydrology; infiltration; subsurface flow; surface flow; wetland; nitrogen; Denitrification; mineralization; nitrification; marine biology; aquatic ecology; limnology; Marinbiologi; limnologi; akvatisk ekologi;

    Abstract : In this thesis, I have studied nitrogen turnover processes in watermeadows. A watermeadow is a wetland where water infiltrates through the soil of a grassland field. READ MORE

  2. 2. The role of benthic macrofauna in nitrogen cycling in eutrophic lake sediment

    Author : Jonas Martin Svensson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; nitrogen retention; nitrous oxide; oligochaetes; chironomids; mineralisation; nitrification; denitrification; eutrophic; sediment; lake; Macrofauna; nitrogen cycling; fish reduction.; Ecology; Ekologi;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns the role of sediment-living macrobenthos in the cycling of nitrogen species and nitrogen transformation in eutrophic freshwater sediments. In my thesis I have, employing 15N-isotope techniques in laboratory experiments, shown the importance of infaunal chironomid larvae and oligochaetes on denitrification in eutrophic lake sediments. 3. 3. The role of sediments in nitrogen cycling in the larger Baltic Sea

    Author : Anne Stockenberg; Lars Peter Nielsen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Microbiology; Mikrobiologi; mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Abstract : The eutrophication of coastal areas has become a widespread problem over the last decades. In the Baltic Sea, the input of nitrogen and phosphorus has increased by four and eight times, respectively, since the turn of the century, and this is considered the direct cause of the eutrophication of this ecosystem. 4. 4. Removal of wastewater nitrogen in a wetland filter

    Author : Hans Bertil Wittgren; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; INTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH AREAS; TVÄRVETENSKAPLIGA FORSKNINGSOMRÅDEN;

    Abstract : An artificial wetland system, designed to achieve year-round wastewater treatment concomitantly with nutrient recycling, was studied for three years. As part of a joint research project, this thesis focuses on nitrogen transformations and nitrogen removal capacity. READ MORE

  5. 5. Theoretical investigation of water vapour condensation in presence of noncondensable gases

    Author : Krzysztof Karkoszka; KTH; []
    Keywords : Technology; TEKNIKVETENSKAP; TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : Steam condensation phenomenon plays an important role in many industrial applications. Especially in energy sector this process requires deep understanding. When noncondensable gases are taken into consideration description of the entire phenomenon becomes more complicated. READ MORE
