  1. 1. ENVIRONMENTAL CONTAMINANTS AND SPERM Y:X CHROMOSOME RATIO. Impact of androgen- and dioxin-related effects in vivo and in vitro

    Author : Tarmo Tiido; Malmö Reproduktionsmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; AR; polymorphisms; Sertoli cell; endocrine disruption; inhibitory cross-talk; Biomedicinska vetenskaper; Biomedical sciences; AHR; sperm Y:X chromosome ratio; sex ratio; POPs; TCDD;

    Abstract : During the last decades, there has been concern that the environmental contaminants, such as POPs, may contribute to sex ratio changes in offspring of exposed populations. Accidental exposure to TCDD has been shown to be associated with fewer sons in men who were exposed in adolescence or earlier in life. READ MORE

  2. 2. Adseverin – An Immune-Specific Target of 2,3,7,8-Tetrachlorodibenzo-p-Dioxin

    Author : Camilla Svensson; Lars Wärngård; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Toxicology; 2; 3; 7; 8-Tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin; TCDD; adseverin; aryl hydrocarbon receptor; immunotoxicity; thymus; cytoskeleton; Toxikologi; Toxicology; Toxikologi; Toxicology; toxikologi;

    Abstract : The environmental pollutant 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) induces thymus atrophy and immunosuppression in all animal species examined and these effects constitute a potential risk to humans. TCDD can via binding to the intracellular aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR), modulate transcription of a number of genes and the aim of this thesis has been to identify such genes, which may explain the mechanisms behind TCDD-mediated immunotoxicity. 3. 3. Formation and metabolism of the tryptophan-derived 6-formylindolo[3,2-b]carbazole - a light-induced Ah-receptor ligand

    Author : Linda Bergander; Ulf Rannug; Agneta Rannug; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Toxicology; Toxikologi;

    Abstract : The aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) is a ligand dependent transcription factor ubiquitously expressed in mammalian cells. It is a genetically ancient protein mostly known for binding the extremely toxic contaminant 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD). READ MORE

  4. 4. Genetic, environmental and life-style effects on androgen receptor function

    Author : Christel Björk; Malmö Molekylärgenetisk reproduktionsmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; reproductive function; smoking; 4 .4-DDE; persistent organic pollutants; prostate cancer; Androgen receptor; prostate specific antigen; CAG polymorphism; TCDD; aryl hydrocarbon receptor; CB-153;

    Abstract : Androgens regulate male reproductive function and their effects are mediated through the androgen receptor (AR). The AR gene contains a polymorphic CAG repeat, encoding a stretch of glutamines, affecting the transcriptional activity of the AR. READ MORE

  5. 5. Teratogenicity and in vitro fetal thymus toxicity of 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin and its congeners : segregation with the Ah-locus

    Author : Ezdihar Abdul-Malek Hassoun; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; PHARMACY; FARMACI;
