1. On direct hydrogen fuel cell vehicles : modelling and demonstration
Abstract : In this thesis, direct hydrogen Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) fuel cell systems in vehicles are investigated through modelling, field tests and public acceptance surveys. A computer model of a 50 kW PEM fuel cell system was developed. The fuel cell system efficiency is approximately 50% between 10 and 45% of the rated power. READ MORE

2. Non-geological hydrogen storage for fossil-free steelmaking
Abstract : In the last half-century, global steel use has increased more than threefold and further growth is expected, particularly in developing economies. However, steelmaking is currently responsible for 7% of the global net carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, and any substantial further optimization of existing processes that utilize fossil fuels for iron ore reduction is infeasible. 3. Fermentative hydrogen and methane productions using membrane bioreactors
Abstract : The role of energy as a stimulant for economic growth and environmental sustainabilityof any nation has made the focus on green fuels, including fermentative hydrogen (bioH2) andmethane (bioCH4), to be a priority for the World’s policy makers. Nigeria, as the most populousAfrican country, with worsening energy crisis, can benefit from the introduction of the bioH2 andbioCH4 technologies into the country’s energy mix, since such technologies have the potential ofgenerating energy from organic wastes such as fruit waste. 4. Adsorption of Molecular Hydrogen on Cu, Pd and Ni Surfaces
Abstract : This thesis is devoted to spectroscopic studies of molecular hydrogen adsorbed on metal surfaces. Hydrogen is the simplest molecule available and is a very valuable model adsorbate. From a spectroscopic point of view there are also three easily accessible molecular isotopes, H2, HD and D2, with widely different masses. READ MORE

5. Infrastructural requirements for indirect and direct electrification of road transportation
Abstract : This thesis analyzes the integration of electricity and transportation systems for a future in which transportation is increasingly electrified. The focus is on exploring the infrastructures required for the indirect electrification of heavy transportation and the direct electrification of passenger vehicles. READ MORE
