  1. 1. Direction-dependent processes - Theory and application

    Author : Fredrik Rosenqvist; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; realisation; parameter estimation; direction-dependent dynamic processes; electronic noses; pulp and paper applications; piecewise-linear modelling;

    Abstract : In this thesis, direction-dependent processes are described as processes whose responses differ in shape, strength and speed, depending on whether the input signal or output signal increases or decreases. The way in which these dynamics arise is discussed for three different applications; these applications are a thermomechanical pulp refiner, in which the motor load response to the hydraulic pressure is direction dependent, a paper machine, in which the calliper control in the calender section is direction dependent, and an electronic nose, in which the response to substrate concentration is direction dependent. 2. 2. Feasible Direction Methods for Constrained Nonlinear Optimization : Suggestions for Improvements

    Author : Maria Mitradjieva-Daneva; Maud Göthe-Lundgren; Torbjörn Larsson; Clas Rydergren; Anders Forsgren; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; constrained nonlinear optimization; feasible direction methods; conjugate directions; traffic equilibrium problem; sequential linear programming algorithm; stochastic transportation problem; Optimization; systems theory; Optimeringslära; systemteori;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns the development of novel feasible direction type algorithms for constrained nonlinear optimization. The new algorithms are based upon enhancements of the search direction determination and the line search steps. READ MORE

  3. 3. Description of spatial and temporal distributions of epiphytic lichens

    Author : Håkan Lättman; Per Milberg; Bengt Gunnar Jonsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; centroid; continuity; lichen; movement; range shift; direction; dispersal; ecological continuity; establishment; global change; global warming; habitat availability; håkan lättman; Biology; Biologi;

    Abstract : Lichens are, in most cases, sensitive to anthropogenic factors such as air pollution, global warming, forestry and fragmentation. Two studies are included in this thesis. The first is an evaluation of the importance of old oak for the rare epiphytic lichen Cliostomum corrugatum (Ach.) Fr. READ MORE

  4. 4. Verbs of Motion with Directional Prepositions and Prefixes in Xenophon's Anabasis

    Author : Sanita Balode; Grekiska (antik och bysantinsk); []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Xenophon; Anabasis; prefixes; prepositional phrases; verbs of motion; surface elements; semantic elements; motion event; moving entity; landmark; source; path; goal; space; direction; trajectory; synonymy;

    Abstract : The thesis compares different prepositions and verbal prefixes denoting direction in Ancient Greek. The corpus covers passages in Xenophon’s Anabasis where such directional elements are used. READ MORE
