1. Finite Element Methods for Thin Structures with Applications in Solid Mechanics
Abstract : Thin and slender structures are widely occurring both in nature and in human creations. Clever geometries of thin structures can produce strong constructions while requiring a minimal amount of material. READ MORE

2. Maximal theorems and Calderón-Zygmund type decompositions forthe fractional maximal function
Abstract : A very significant role in the estimation of different operators in analysis is played by the Hardy-Littlewood maximal function. There are a lot of papers dedicated to the study of properties of it, its variants, and their applications. READ MORE

3. High order summation-by-parts based approximations for discontinuous and nonlinear problems
Abstract : Numerical approximations using high order finite differences on summation-byparts (SBP) form are investigated for discontinuous and fully nonlinear systems of partial differential equations. Stability and conservation properties of the approximations are obtained through a weak imposition of interface and boundary conditions with the simultaneous-approximation-term (SAT) technique. 4. Characterisation and Modeling of Discontinuous Rock Mass: Geostatistical Interpretation of Seismic Response to Fracture Occurrence, Discrete Fracture Network Modeling and Stability Predictions for Underground Excavations
Abstract : Geometric and mechanical characterisation of rock discontinuities is an essential constituent in deriving a reliable assessment of overall properties of crystalline rock mass. The knowledge about the occurrence, size, geometry pattern and intensity of joints/fractures is necessary to predict the performance of fractured rock as a fractured reservoir, or an underground transport and storage facility. 5. Nonparametric Functional Estimation under Order Restrictions
Abstract : This thesis consists of three papers (Papers A-C) on problems in nonparametric functional estimation, in particular density and regression function estimation and deconvolution, under order assumptions. Pointwise limit distribution results are stated for the obtained estimators, which include isotonic regression estimates, nonparametric maximum likelihood estimates of monotone densities, estimates of convex regression and density functions and deconvolution estimates.
