1. Water in and on ionic materials : Structure, energetics, and vibrations
Abstract : Many chemical and physical phenomena in nature, in industrial processes, and in our daily lives take place at water/solid interfaces. The aim of this thesis is to further our knowledge of such processes at a molecular level. READ MORE

2. Vibrations in timber floors : Dynamic properties and human perception
Abstract : Springiness and vibrations of timber floors are familiar to many as a ‘live’ feelwhen walking on them, especially if living in single family housing with timberframework. Since the building regulations in Sweden changed to performancedependentrequirements in 1994 the use of timber in multifamily housing hasincreased. READ MORE

3. Vibrations in solids : From first principles lattice dynamics to high temperature phase stability
Abstract : In this thesis I introduce a new method for calculating the temperature dependent vibrational contribution to the free energy of a substitutionally disordered alloy that accounts for anharmonicity at high temperatures. This method exploits the underlying crystal symmetries in an alloy to make the calculations tractable. READ MORE

4. Modelling Microslip Friction Damping and its Influence on Turbine Blade Vibrations
Abstract : A common failure mode for turbomachinery is high-cycle fatigue of compressor and turbine blades, due to high dynamic stresses caused by blade vibration resonance within the operating range of the machinery. A large number of engine shut-downs can be explained by blade failure caused by resonance vibration or flutter. READ MORE

5. On Robot Feedback from Range Sensors : Reliable Control by Active Reduction of Uncertainty and Ambiguities
Abstract : This thesis is on modelling and experimental tests when non contact sensing isused for feedback control in robotics. The motion of the robot is to be controlled relative to objects in the surrounding workspace during operations like gripping/docking, surface following, shape measuring etc. READ MORE
