  1. 1. Microengineered CVD Diamond Surfaces : Tribology and Applications

    Author : Joakim Andersson; Staffan Jacobson; Arto Alahelisten; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Materials science; Diamond; DLC; Tribology; Friction; Environment; Microengineering; Materialvetenskap; Materials science; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : Recent developments in thin film synthesis of diamond have facilitated a host of new technical applications. These are motivated by the many attractive properties of diamond, for example high hardness, chemical inertness, transparency and heat conductivity. Unfortunately, these properties also make it difficult to fashion complex geometries. READ MORE

  2. 2. On the Formation of Low-Friction Tribofilms in Me-DLC – Steel Sliding Contacts

    Author : Nils Stavlid; Urban Wiklund; Sture Hogmark; Erik Johansson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Materials science; tribofilms; tribochemistry; boundary-lubrication; ESCA; Materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : The present thesis thoroughly treats a special friction reduction phenomenon that may appear in boundary lubricated tribological contacts, of the type encountered in numerous mechanical components made of steel. The phenomenon involves the formation of a special type of tribofilm that offers very low coefficients of friction. READ MORE

  3. 3. HiPIMS-based Novel Deposition Processes for Thin Films

    Author : Asim Aijaz; Ulf Helmersson; Kostas Sarakinos; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : In this research, high power impulse magnetron sputtering (HiPIMS) based new deposition processes are introduced to address; the issue of low degree of ionization of C in magnetron sputtering discharges, and the difficulty encountered in thin film deposition on complex-shaped surfaces. The issue of low degree of C ionization is addressed by introducing a new strategy which is based on promoting the electron impact ionization ofC by increasing the electron temperature in the plasma discharge using Ne, instead of conventionally used Ar. 4. 4. Friction in Elastohydrodynamic Lubrication

    Author : Marcus Björling; H. P. Evans; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Maskinelement; Machine Elements;

    Abstract : Today, with increasing demands on industry to reduce energy consumption and emissions, the strive to increase the efficiency of machine components is maybe bigger than ever. This PhD thesis focus on friction in elastohydrodynamic lubrication (EHL), found in, among others, gears, bearings and cam followers. READ MORE

  5. 5. Investigations for enhanced tribological performance of a hydraulic motor

    Author : Daniel Nilsson; Friedrich Franek; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Maskinelement; Machine Elements;

    Abstract : A radial piston hydraulic motor has several components that encounter sliding orrolling motion under lubricated conditions. When a hydrostatic, hydrodynamic orelastohydrodynamic oil film separates the interacting surfaces, the wear and frictionare low provided of course the hydraulic fluid is free from the presence ofcontaminants.
