  1. 1. Domain Decomposition and Preconditioned Iterative Methods for the Helmholtz Equation

    Author : Elisabeth Larsson; Kurt Otto; Bengt Fornberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Helmholtz equation; domain decomposition; preconditioned iterative method; fast transforms; parallelization; Numerical Analysis; Numerisk analys;

    Abstract : New preconditioned iterative solution methods for the Helmholtz equation are constructed. To evaluate the performance of the methods, two-dimensional problems with a waveguide geometry are used as model problems. Second- and fourth-order accurate finite difference discretizations are used. READ MORE

  2. 2. Convergence analysis of domain decomposition methods : Nonlinear elliptic and linear parabolic equations

    Author : Emil Engström; Matematik LTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nonoverlapping domain decomposition; Steklov--Poincaré operator; Robin--Robin method; Convergence; Nonlinear elliptic equation; Space-time;

    Abstract : Domain decomposition methods are widely used tools for solving partial differential equations in parallel. However, despite their long history, there is a lack of rigorous convergence theory for equations with non-symmetric differential operators. This includes both nonlinear elliptic equations and linear parabolic equations. READ MORE

  3. 3. Numerical homogenization of network models and micro-mechanical simulation of paperboard

    Author : Morgan Görtz; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; domain decomposition; paper model; local orthogonal decomposition; Bending; paper simulation; network model; multiscale;

    Abstract : Micro-mechanical simulations of paper products involve complex geometries and challenging numerical problems. This work considers micro-mechanical simulations where individual paper fibers are modeled and resolved. This level of detail is useful in paper-product development, where wood composition and other fiber-based parameters are essential. READ MORE

  4. 4. Spatial and Physical Splittings of Semilinear Parabolic Problems

    Author : Erik Henningsson; Matematik LTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; splitting schemes; parabolic equations; semilinear; evolution equations; dissipative; convergence order; dimension splitting; domain decomposition; axonal growth;

    Abstract : Splitting methods are widely used temporal approximation schemes for parabolic partial differential equations (PDEs). These schemes may be very efficient when a problem can be naturally decomposed into multiple parts. READ MORE

  5. 5. Numerical Vlasov–Maxwell Modelling of Space Plasma

    Author : Bengt Eliasson; Bertil Gustafsson; Bo Thidé; Anders Bondeson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Vlasov equation; Maxwell equation; Fourier method; outflow boundary; domain decomposition; Numerical Analysis; Numerisk analys;

    Abstract : The Vlasov equation describes the evolution of the distribution function of particles in phase space (x,v), where the particles interact with long-range forces, but where shortrange "collisional" forces are neglected. A space plasma consists of low-mass electrically charged particles, and therefore the most important long-range forces acting in the plasma are the Lorentz forces created by electromagnetic fields.
